Taxi driver returns gold worth US$423,800 to forgetful owner

An honest taxi driver yesterday returned some eight kg of gold left in his cab to the rightful owner.

As a reward for his honesty, taxi driver Saksee Kesseekaew was immediately given gold necklaces worth about 200,000 baht (US$6520) by the grateful gold shop owner, Akekarat Kanokwannakorn, who also promised the cabbie an additional reward of 300,000 baht (US$9780) in cash.

Makiyo, friend reach settlement of $128k with taxi driver

TAIPEI - Actress Makiyo and her friend Takateru Tomoyori have reached an out-of-court settlement with a taxi driver whom they allegedly beat up last month, it was announced in court yesterday.

Makiyo and Tomoyori were charged with attempting to cause serious physical injury to a taxi driver, surnamed Lin, on Feb. 2.

Why female bosses frighten men

MOST men still find female bosses who earn more than them a threat.

A Daily Telegraph survey has found men are more concerned about women being in charge of them at work than they are if their partners earn more than they do.

It shows personal relationships are changing faster than professional ones, relationship expert Lyn Fletcher said.

"It is still a little quaint and old-fashioned view that men should earn more, be the primary breadwinner and be the boss," Ms Fletcher, director of operations for Relationships Australia NSW, said.

Men think they should be Supermen in bed - survey

SINGAPORE - Singaporean men seem to expect themselves to be 'Supermen' in the bedroom, so claims a survey conducted by Society for Men's Health.

'What's Normal?' surveyed 490 Singaporeans of different ages and backgrounds and found that 65.4 per cent of men polled believe that sex should last longer than 20 minutes.

This is in sharp contrast to the 47.6 per cent of women who believe so.

In a previous study done across five countries in 2009, the average time from penetration to ejaculation - known as the intravaginal ejaculatory latency time (IELT) - for men is six minutes.

More girls may be in NSW sex ring

Police fear more young girls may have been victims of a child prostitution ring in Sydney and are too frightened to come forward.

One of the girls who was enticed into having sex in cars and motels with male clients was 13, police will allege.

Officers of Strike Force Woodvale arrested a 22-year-old woman at Warwick Farm, in the city's southwest, at about 8.30am (AEDT) on Friday and charged her with armed robbery and child prostitution offences.

Man Tries Selling Teen for Sex at Starbucks

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The FBI was watching as a man tried to sell a teenager inside a downtown coffee shop.

Federal prosecutors have now released the undercover video of the transaction. Eric Tutstone, 44, was convicted of “sex trafficking a child” and sentenced on Tuesday to 11 years in prison.

Investigators say Tutstone was talking to a woman he thought was running a sex trafficking ring, unaware she had a hidden camera and working for the FBI. They say he was trying to sell a 16-year-old girl he befriended in his neighborhood in August 2010.

Ex-cop says tribunal probe will implicate A-G, Musa in ‘black eye’ case

KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 — A former senior policeman wants Datuk Seri Najib Razak to set up a tribunal to investigate Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail and Tan Sri Musa Hassan, saying that this would find the duo guilty of fabricating evidence in Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s “black eye” incident.

Datuk Mat Zain Ibrahim, who was the investigating officer in the “black eye” case, claimed today that both men were never investigated for “evidence fabrication” and had only been cleared of “abuse of power” allegations.

He claimed this could be a “new lead” that would warrant the formation of the tribunal.

Teenage Girl Kills Herself After Being Forced To MARRY HER RAPIST

RABAT, Morocco -- The case of a 16-year-old girl who killed herself after she was forced to marry her rapist has spurred outrage among Morocco's internet activists and calls for changes to the country's laws.

An online petition, a Facebook page and countless tweets expressed horror over the suicide of Amina Filali, who swallowed rat poison on Saturday to protest her marriage to the man who raped her a year earlier.

Article 475 of the Moroccan penal code allows for the "kidnapper" of a minor to marry his victim to escape prosecution, and it has been used to justify a traditional practice of making a rapist marry his victim to preserve the honor of the woman's family.

Mike Jellema took to the stand on Friday to testify against his ex wife Deborah Ashton, who is accused of having a two-year affair with a boy in Grade 7 in 2002. He was only 12 years old.

She has pleaded not guilty to five sex-related charges.

Incensed when a teammate received a red card for verbally abusing the ref, Yanga's Stephano Mwasika let his fists do the talking, landing a hefty punch on the official. Thankfully, a police officer holding a long thin stick jogged onto the pitch to calm everything down and the game was allowed to continue.

Mwasika could receive a ban of up to one year for his antics, but Yanga's chairman has remained defiant and protective of his team. The club is actually attempting to lodge an appeal against the referee's "gross incompetence," claiming "he simply failed to conduct the match in a fair manner."

KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 — Dennis Carpenter, 80, still remembers the day his family received news that his only brother Geoffrey had been killed in far-flung Malaya.

They had received a telegram that Royal Air Force Navigator Geoffrey Carpenter, 23, was missing. His mother took the news badly and always thought Geoffrey would return home even after 10 years.

“He was a fun-loving young man, always wanting to go into the Air Force. His legs weren’t long enough so he couldn’t be a pilot. He joined the Air Cadets when he was still at school and when he left school, he went into RAF,” reminisced Dennis.

Anwar vs Najib

MARCH 15 — So Najib does not like to debate. But why not? Some people don’t like to eat oranges, we let them be.

So I suppose if some have the right to not like round juicy objects which are hard-going — peeling with your hands and all (so prole!) — you can equally extend this right to Datuk Seri Najib Razak in other arbitrary matters, such as refusing to debate publicly about our country’s current path and how to raise the bar as a progressive society.

However, the prime minister has to keep some consistency, just so the historians characterise him right later.

He should start by closing down Parliament. This is an institution intended to encourage our finest political minds to have laborious, unyielding and rarely funny discussions about the country, mostly by disagreeing.

KUALA LUMPUR, March 15 — The morning was slightly damp with a light mist when I arrived at the Cheras Road Commonwealth War Grave Cemetery. It felt almost like a crisp English spring morning. How fitting then that this would be the day the 11 British crash victims of the Royal Air Force Dakota KN630 that crashed in 1950 would be buried. 

What is worse than a pariah politician in Malaysia?

What is worse than a pariah politician in M’sia? My answer is the current batch of MCA leaders. They have no qualms about sabotaging Barisan Nasional (BN), although they don’t have the intelligence to think they are doing so, just to serve their personal and selfish political agenda.

To the MCA leaders, led by an undisputed immoral president, anyone not in their inner circle and is a threat to their political survival must be eliminated at all costs – including BN.

At a time when BN chairman and prime minister Najib Abdul Razak is struggling, and failing miserably, to keep his coalition relevant, the MCA leaders choose to treat their former president, Ong Tee Keat, like a pariah.

To back his claim that not all is proper at Prime Minister's Office, PKR strategy director Rafiz Ramli exposed another personal expense allegedly charged to the PMO although marked private, reflecting the excessive lifestyle and reeking of abuse of power by Najib Razak and wife Rosmah Mansor.

The latest expose' immediately reignited questions about Najib's income sources, given that the prime minister's pay of RM23,000 per month would nowhere be enough to support such spending, which has amounted to RM500,000 over a period of just one month and for two lavish dinner parties.

"Corruption is the scourge that we need to fight and not just pay lip service to. Najib himself pledged to fight corruption ihis transformation program. So, there must be leadership by example," Rafizi told Malaysia Chroinicle.

Altantuya’s murder case will keep haunting Najib into the general election

Many UMNO members are waiting for Prime Minister Najib Razak to leave the scene the way Sharizat Jalil is doing  The split is now becoming more obvious within UMNO. Scandals, corruptions, favouritism, poor governance and the many queries on the Altantuya murder case have brought on this effect.

Many UMNO members are silently protesting the way Najib is handling so many issues affecting the country. Those who will be given the green light to contest in the next general election and their supporters would probably  remain in Najib’s camp. Those not selected and their supporters will most likely sabotage UMNO by either not voting or giving their generous votes to the Opposition. Even those within Najib’s camp are apparently divided, as there are many hopefuls for the top posts in the party.

Those who are seen “clean” within Umno want Najib to leave the scene. There are too many issues affecting the image of Umno since Najib’s take over from Abdullah Ahmad Badawi as the 6th prime minister. These dissenters are the few genuine leaders who love Umno more than Najib. They see many things not going on well in the governance of the country under Najib. They cannot say much though, as being too vocal will see them being sidelined in UMNO by those closely associated to Najib. They are very disillusioned to the extent that they would like to see UMNO-BN lose to the Opposition  in the next general election.

Police nab four over Nadirah’s murder

JOHOR BARU, March 14 — Police have arrested four people, including a woman, in connection with the kidnap and murder of Nurul Nadirah Abdullah, whose charred remains were found in an oil palm estate in Masai on March 8, a week after she went missing.

Local media reports quoted Johor police chief Datuk Mokhtar Shariff as saying that three of those arrested were drug addicts and two have previous records for drug offences and kidnapping.

Syrian government forces killed dozens of people in the northern city of Idlib, dumping their bodies in a mosque, while some 22 soldiers died in two separate rebel ambushes, opposition activists said on Tuesday.

The army intensified its assault on the Idlib province near the Turkish border, intermittently shelling built-up areas and spraying houses with machinegun fire in a bid to dislodge anti-government fighters.

Clashes were also reported in the eastern city of Deir al-Zor and security forces shelled Syria's third largest city, Homs, as the year-long uprising against President Bashar al-Assad's authoritarian rule increasingly resembles a civil war.

8-year-old boy smokes 2 packs a day

Indonesia - In 2010, 2-year-old Ardi Rizal made headlines when pictures of him smoking emerged in the media. Reports claimed he smoked 40 cigarettes a day, after that first puff when he was just 18 months old.

Now another eight-year-old Indonesian boy is making headlines. Ilam reportedly started smoking when he was four years old. Now, he smokes two packs a day.

Ilham, as well as Ardi Rizal, is a glaring example of the government's failure to regulate the tobacco industry, Indonesia's Child Protection Commission says.
