CHINA - A man from Chongqing in Southern China nearly suffocated to death after a romantic gesture to his girlfriend went wrong.

Mr Hu Seng had asked his friend to tape him into a box so he could ship himself via a courier service to his girlfriend, Li Wang.

Prime Minister Najib Razak has given his strongest hint so far, telling an Umno meeting in Sabah that the 13th general election might well be in November this year.

“Six times 11 equals 66, five times 11 equals 55 and 2 times 11 equals 22. The 11 factor appears in all, it is unique and good,” Najib told Umno members in Sandakan during a visit to the state.

Najib did not specifically mention November, the 11th month in the calendar, but Umno-owned newspaper Utusan screamed out the headlines PRU13 November? (13th general election in November?).

Some friends have asked me as to how history will remember Dr. Mahathir. This has led me to thinking about Ho Chi Minh, Sukarno, Nehru, Lee Kuan Yew and other Asian giants of colonial and post colonial history, and how Dr. Mahathir measures up to them. However, comparing him to other leaders in our Asian neighbourhood may be unfair to Dr. Mahathir as it may be demanding too high a standard in leadership, given the unusual and extraordinary crop of leaders in our part of the world.

Instead, I am now more inclined to compare him with leaders from other countries of the world where the comparison may be more appropriate. One leader with whom I am sure Dr. Mahathir would not mind comparison is Kwame Nkrumah, a giant of contemporary African history who Dr Mahathir is probably hoping – when his own obituary is written – for future generations to put him in the company of.

The evening of August 21st, a 5 year-old girl named Xiao Hua was taken by a man from her home and molested, afterwards dumped in a nearby trashcan. Panyu Police have already captured the man. Results of a hospital examination revealed the girl’s vagina was seriously injured by straining, and perhaps she would lose her ability to have children in the future.

“Mama, I’m afraid, I don’t dare to return home, that ‘uncle’ will come to get me.”  5 year-old Xiao Hua (not her real name) cried as she dug into her mother’s bosom. On the 21st around 8 pm, when Xiao Hua and her little brother were at home watching TV, a man broke into her home and carried her off. In an alley a few meters from her home, Xiao Hua was allegedly molested by the man, and afterward dumped into a nearby trash can. Waiting until the man walked away, Xiao Hua, crying, crawled out of the trashcan and walked home shaking.
