KUCHING: Sabahans are paying the price for the ‘sins’ committed by the government whilst under former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, claimed Sarawak PKR.

Referring to the infamous Mahathir-led Project IC which legalised tens and thousands of illegal Muslim Filipinos, Indonesians and others in the 1990s, state chief Baru Bian said that Mahathir’s only concern was in establishing a loyal ‘votes’ bank and neutralising Sabah’s then majority Christian population.

These “voters” have been Barisan Nasional’s fixed deposits in the past and ensured Umno won elections and that federal styled Islamic administration was administered in Sabah.

MANILA, Philippines -- The sultanate of Sulu brushed off President Benigno Aquino III’s allegations “conspirators” funded the voyage of some 200 followers who went to Sabah to press its claim to the territory.

The voyage was “KKB,” short for “kaniya-kaniyang bayad,” meaning everyone who went paid contributed towards expenses, Abraham Idjirani, spokesman of the sultanate, said at a press briefing Monday afternoon.

KANGAR: Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak has ordered the intelligence authorities to investigate a claim that an opposition leader had a hand in the armed intrusion in Lahad Datu, Sabah.

He said the allegation was a serious matter but there must be strong evidence to identify the mastermind.

Najib said he was puzzled as to why the armed men came to Sabah at a time when the country was about to hold a general election when the Sulu Sultanate had laid claim to Sabah a long time ago.

SEMPORNA: A man armed with a M16 rifle, believed to have been involved in an ambush which claimed the lives of five policemen at Kampung Sri Jaya, Siminul, Semporna last night, was beaten to death by a group of Kampung Senallang Lama villagers here.

The man has yet to be identified.

In the 7 am incident this morning, a big-sized man in his 50s, dressed in black and armed with a M16 rifle climbed down a hill and let off a few shots in the direction of the village.

LAHAD DATU: Five policemen, one of them an officer, were killed in an ambush by armed intruders in Kampung Sri Jaya, Simunul, Semporna, Sabah, last night, Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar told reporters in Lahad Datu today.

He said two of the armed intruders were also killed.

Previously it was thought that only two policemen had been killed in the gunfight.

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian government paid an array of American mainstream publications to mostly malign opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim and to a lesser extend  print its propaganda.

Disclosing details of payments made to conservative American opinion writers, a political news website BuzzFeed Politics said much of these reports appeared in publications such as the  Huffington Post,  San Francisco Examiner, Washington Times, National Review and RedState.

The website reported that details of these payments emerged in a filing earlier this week to the US Department of Justice.
