Cops hint new 'evidence' in Christian-state row, Utusan may be right
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said today investigations into an alleged Christian plot to unseat Islam as the federal religion was a priority for the police.
Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia carried a front-page article headlined “Kristian agama rasmi?” (Christianity the official religion?) last Saturday, claiming the DAP was conspiring with Christian leaders to take over Putrajaya and abolish Islam as the religion of the federation.
The report, based entirely on unsubstantiated blog postings by two pro-Umno bloggers, charged DAP with sedition for allegedly trying to change the country’s laws to allow a Christian prime minister.
Several police reports have been made to demand the authorities investigate Utusan Malaysia and the blogger for criminal acts, with the report described as a “dangerous lie”.
But Khalid said a fresh report was lodged regarding the matter this morning, one which differed from the previous ones on the matter.
“I urge all parties to no make any speculations, don’t exaggerate, because we are investigating and a thorough investigation will be conducted, so be patient. Even the prime minister said don’t play up this issue because this is a dangerous issue... very sensitive,” he said.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein earlier revealed that a police report has been lodged claiming there was some truth in the alleged Christian plot.
Hishammuddin also said Utusan’s editor-in-chief, Datuk Aziz Ishak, had claimed “there was some truth in what was reported”.
