When all else fails, de-register PKR!
Back to the wall, Prime Minister Najib Razak is now out to de-register Parti Keadilan Rakyat, the political vehicle led by arch rival Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim, party leaders said on Thursday.
"We did some homework, and with the help of our legal adviser we found that the ROS wants to deregister us based on Article 32.2.1 of the party constitution. But this article does not exist in our constitution, which was approved by the RoS itself," PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution told a press conference.
Niat jahat or bad intentions
Saifuddin held out a show-cause letter sent by the Registrar of Societies or ROS, asking PKR to state "satisfactory reasons" why it should not be de-registered for violating Article 32.2.1 of the party's constitution.
In its letter, ROS claimed PKR had intentionally violated its constitution by sacking Rajagopal Andaikkalam on April 1 and April 27 in 2009, without the matter being brought up or investigated by the party's discplinary board.
Signed by registrar Abdul Rahman Othman, the letter further contended that PKR had unlawfully sacked Rajagopal without giving him the right of reply.
As such, Abdul Rahman said he was exercising his powers under Section 13 sub-section (2) of the Societies Act 1966 to issue the notice of deregistration, which will take effect unless the party puts up a satisfactory defence in writing before June 9.

But strangely, PKR said there was no member by that name on its record. The party slammed Abdul Rahman and the ROS for not checking thoroughly and accused it of "niat jahat' or bad intentions.

“We checked our records, and we did not find a Rajagopal Andaikkalam. What we have is a Jayagopal Andiakkalam. The dates the RoS mentioned are also completely off, as we have no record of sackings on April 1 or April 27 that year. Our records show April 26,” said Saifuddin.
Latest Umno banana skin
The latest bid to throw PKR off track is another banana skin that Najib and his Umno party have stepped on, boomeranging and embarrassing themselves rather than their targets.
Batu MP Tian Chua and Subang MP Sivarasa Rasiah, who were also present at the press conference, condemned the BN government.
"We are amazed at the levels that Najib will go to just to kill off Anwar's and PKR's chances. This incident may seem comical and it is funny. But I assure you, it is no laughing matter. It actually shows how dangerous the situation has become. The Malaysian political scene is no longer civilized, it is badly out of control," Tian toldMalaysia Chronicle.
