Beautiful woman versus charming man

Beauty seems to have become an essential in Thailand.
Have you noticed that international brand products, from soap, skincare products to sanitary towels, tend to have lovely Thai babes as their spokespersons?
Nearly half of Thai's tourism industry is supported by beautiful natural-born and transsexual women. Meanwhile, Thai charming guys are also very popular, particularly among Western women who like oriental men.
Even Thai ghost films are always featured with pretty actresses and handsome actors.
Today, Thai citizens extolling beauty can even vote for a beautiful woman or a charming man as their next Prime Minister.
The Thai general election will be held next week. Its people seem to have less interests in the battle between the Yellow and Red Shirts. Instead, they are focusing on the battle between the two Prime Minister candidates.
Although incumbent Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva from the Yellow Shirt has been bruised and battered by the political chaos over the past two years, he is still being internationally recognised as the world's best looking politician.
Meanwhile, the Red Shirt fields Yingluck Shinawatra, sister of former Prime Minister, as their candidate.
Forty-four-year-old Yingluck is beautiful and lovely.
It was a shock when the people first heard of Thaksin's arrangement to field his sister as the candidate and they could not believe that Yingluck would be able to lead the party as she had never involved in politics, let alone to become the Prime Minister.
However, I have to admire Thaksin's vision and his understanding of public sentiment.
Yingluck knows how to combine her advantages with the people's expectations.
She made various promises, including to restore economic prosperity, create social harmony and even provide free tablet computers for students.
These commitments would bring less effects if they were made by experienced politicians. However, when they were made by Yingluck, they have turned into touching words from the bottom of a beautiful and sensible woman's heart.
Her beautiful face and political innocence are a unique combination that creates a great chemistry.
It has inspired many Thais to call for a princess-style leader who can lead them back to a simple politics.
It is a bit nonsensical but after several years of political chaos, Thais are tired of political struggles and looking forward to a fantasy-like ending.
As for the handsome Abhisit, he lacks political finesse and affinity and thus, he has difficulties in impressing the people. Even his high qualification as an Oxford graduate does not seem help much.
It reminds me of French actor Alain Delon, who rose quickly in stardom. He is amazing but due to the lack of affinity, his supporters have been gradually dispersing.
The support rate of Yingluck has surpassed Abhisit's in just a few weeks time. If the situation goes on, it seems like Thailand is going to experience another regime change in which a beautiful woman is going to replace a charming man.
