A YOUNG man who threatened to post nude photographs of a girl he came to know on Facebook was fined a total of $3,000 yesterday for criminal intimidation and for gaming in public.
Lau Kah Meng, 22, admitted to two counts of threatening the 19-year-old girl with injury to her reputation on Aug 23 last year, by saying he would post photos of her unclothed on the Internet.
He also admitted to gaming at the void deck of Block 17 in Marsiling Lane with several people, using cash as stakes, on Aug 11.
The court heard that while chatting with the girl that day, Lau threatened to circulate the photos if she refused to transfer $30 to him.
Out of fear, she went to a POSB ATM in Serangoon North Avenue 3 and transferred the sum to Lau’s account.
That evening, upon his threatening her again, she transferred another $40 to him.
Investigations showed Lau did not even have nude photos of her.
Five similar charges involving a total of $50 were taken into consideration.
He could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined on each charge.
For gaming in public, he could have been fined up to $5,000 and/or jailed for up to six months.
