A NEW Zealand teen's romantic tryst with a mystery woman was revealed as a foul deception when he removed the blindfold he had been told to wear and found a tall, heavy-set man standing before him, The Dominion Post reported today.
The 19-year-old told police he was invited to Wellington's five-star Bolton Hotel by "a woman named Sam," who he had met on Facebook. "Sam" told the would-be lothario to wear a mask so he would not see her perform a sex act on him.
As he left the hotel room following the encounter, the teen removed his blindfold and discovered the "woman" was Dean Alehana Tefono - also known as Dean Alexander Stebbing - an influential Maori tribal leader in his 30s. (pix)
The 19-year-old immediately fled to a police station to report the incident.
Tefono, who was charged with sexual violation, died from a reported heart attack last week as he awaited trial for the May 17 act.
When police arrested him at the same hotel three weeks after the May 17 incident, they found a black blindfold in his suitcase. A search of his Taupo home found another blindfold, 21 pairs of men's underwear in a range of sizes and "pornographic publications."
He had been a guest at the hotel about 300 times, the newspaper reported.
