A TWISTED brother and sister caught having sex in a railway station lift walked free from a heavily-guarded court yesterday.

Vile Richard and Kirsty Finlayson were placed on probation by Sheriff Ray Small after he said it was not in the public interest to jail them.

But at Hamilton Sheriff Court — where extra police were drafted in amid fears of a vigilante attack — he told the pair: "Your lives are already to a large extent ruined."

Afterwards ex-squaddie Richard, 21 — who got two years' probation — admitted: "I was so terrified going to court, I really thought I was going to prison.

"I'm so glad this is all finished."

Kirsty, 18 — who was handed one year's probation and ordered to undergo counselling — added: "It was horrible as everyone knew why I was there. I felt so humiliated.

"It's over now and it feels like the biggest weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

"I can move on from this terrible experience."

At an earlier hearing Richard and Kirsty, of Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire, admitted having unlawful sexual intercourse at Motherwell railway station in June last year.

The shocked court heard how their romp was caught in 15 minutes of disturbing CCTV footage.

And on Tuesday the pair revealed to The Scottish Sun how the vile act had wrecked their lives.

Yesterday Richard's lawyer Archie Hill said he could not offer an explanation for his client's shocking actions.

He said: "Mr Finlayson is deeply remorseful. This act goes against all traditional and family taboos."

Ken Bonnington, representing Kirsty, said: "She takes full responsibility for her actions.

"She also has great regret for the impact this has had on her family, especially her parents."

Last night their shattered mother Jacqueline, 47, who was led from the hearing in tears, said: "I wish it had never happened.

"But it did and Kirsty and Richard have been made to face up to what they did."
