Collision ... Huw Lloyd seen at the moment of impact at the front of the taxi |
THIS is the horrific moment a man was run over by his own taxi driver in a row over an £8 fare.
Caged ... Muhammad Javed has been jailed for six months
Huw Lloyd can be seen hunched over the bonnet as Muhammad Javed mowed him down.
He drove off leaving his victim lying seriously injured in the road, with head injuries and a fractured hand.
Javed, 45, accelerated into Mr Lloyd after he stood in front of his cab to take a picture on his mobile phone.
Mr Lloyd was carried along on the bonnet for 30 yards.
Javed has been jailed for six months over the incident after admitting dangerous driving and assault causing actual bodily harm.
Dramatic CCTV footage of the incident was played to Bristol Crown Court.
Recorder Simon Foster told Javed: "It is quite plain that you deliberately used your taxi as a weapon.
"You drove deliberately at someone stood right in front of your vehicle.
"It is in my mind extraordinary that there was not more injuries caused. They could have been horrendous."
The incident unfolded after Mr Lloyd and pal Polly Nicalaous got a taxi from Mr Wolf's nightclub in the centre of Bristol to the Stokes Croft area of the city on April 25 this year.
Eric Waley, prosecuting, said the pair had asked Javed if he could take them to their destination for £7 but he said he would do it on the meter.
He said: "When the meter reached £6 they asked to be let out but the defendant continued to drive.
"Miss Nicalaous said they would call the police unless he stopped and he pulled over in Stokes Croft where the fare showed £8.

"They said they would only pay him £5 because they asked him to stop and he hadn't.
"They said he was arguing and being aggressive."
As he played the footage, he added: "He (Javed) got out of his taxi seemed to put his arm out to stop them leaving and is then seen to throw a punch at Mr Lloyd who seems to block it with his arm.
"The defendant ran back to his car. Mr Lloyd left but then returned to take a photo on his Blackberry phone.
"This really aggravated the defendant. He started the engine and jolted the car forward on a couple of occasions causing Mr Lloyd to put his hands on the bonnet.
"Then a black cloud of dust can be seen from the wheels spinning where he clearly has his foot down on the accelerator.
"He drove into Mr Lloyd causing him to go on to the bonnet and when he fell off he hit his head on the floor."
Javed, of Fishponds, Bristol, was banned from driving for two years
