Breaking free: The chains on the girl’s leg being removed at the house in Jalan Raja Uda |
Police have detained a man for abusing his two children by chaining and confining them in the toilet of their home in Taman Mawar, Jalan Raja Uda, here.
Seberang Prai North police chief ACP Zulkifli Alias said Thursday that the man, in his 40s, tied his six-year-old daughter and two-year-old son with a metal chain when he went out to work at 3pm Wednesday.
The siblings were forced to starve for more than five hours after the father left the house.
The man who works with a courier service company here, has been separated from his wife, a Thai national, since last month.
Zulkifli said the two children were found to be very weak from hunger and their legs chained.

He said the initial investigation found that the father had resorted to the measure as he did not have a nanny and the children were said to be naughty.
The man was detained to assist in the investigation under Section 31 (1) of the Child Act and faces a jail term of up to a year or a fine of RM2,000 or both.
A neighbour of the family who declined to be identified said he had heard the children crying for help at about 8pm.
He said when asked what happened, the girl shouted that they were being held in the toilet.
He later informed a Taman Mawar Voluntary Patrol Team and the police.
