Communism, Socialism and Barisan Nasionalism

Unknown | 12:13 PM | | | Best Blogger Tips

From Alwyn Lau, via e-mail
In Communism, EO6 would be the name of a highway; in Socialism, an affirmative action policy. In Barisan Nasionalism, EO6 is the symbol of both injustice and resistance to it, the creation and yet scourge of the boys in Putrajaya and Bukit Aman.
It’s not enough that six innocent individuals are wrongfully detained, the government has to justify itself by conflating Communism with Socialism. It’s bad enough these good folks are being held in sub-1 star hospitality and forced to be separated from their family and friends against their will. Minister in the PM’s Department Nazri Aziz - instead of promoting justice – has to underscore the injustice his bosses have committed by invoking the absurd boogeyman of Communist insurgents.

‘Charge MACC officers with criminal offence’

Unknown | 12:00 PM | | | | Best Blogger Tips

PETALING JAYA: Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail should consider criminal charges instead of merely taking disciplinary action against MACC officers who drove Selangor political aide Teoh Beng Hock to suicide.
Lawyer representing the Teoh-family, Gobind Singh Deo, said that Abdul Gani should consider using Section 330 of the Penal Code which is the offence of “voluntarily causing hurt to extort confession…”. He argued that he believes that “hurt” should encompass mental injury as well.
Abdul Gani was quoted in the local daily New Straits Times on Friday that action against three MACC officers “for their aggressive, inappropriate and (therefore) in violation of the regulations”, as indicted in the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report, is to be read with the understanding of the word “regulations”.

Marilyn Monroe's alleged sex tape to be auctioned

Unknown | 3:25 AM | | | | Best Blogger Tips

We imagine this is a vintage piece about Marilyn Monroe that all collectors would want to possess.
A newly discovered 8-mm version of a film purportedly showing Marilyn Monroe having sex when she was still an underage actress known as Norma Jean Baker, will hit the auction block soon.
Spanish collector Mikel Barsa, who owns the 6 1/2-minute, grainy black-and-white film, is hoping for it to fetch at least $500,000 (RM1.5 million).
He revealed that the film was made before 1947, when Monroe was not yet 21.
However, Scott Fortner, a Marilyn Monroe expert contradicted the claim,  explaining that the person featured in the film is not Monroe.
"That's not Marilyn. The chin is not the same, the lips are not the same, the teeth are not the same. Marilyn was a tiny little thing. And I know that for a fact. I own her clothing," he said, adding that he has a belt that belonged to the legendary actress.
Barsa responded: "People with romantic notions have denied that it's Marilyn Monroe, and have invented stories" to raise doubts about the film, Barsa said in his Buenos Aires office, which is lined with pictures from his days as a concert promoter. "This film shows the real Marilyn Monroe – it was only later that the studios discovered her and transformed her."
It was said that though the woman featured in the film was unlike the glamourous Monroe we all know and love, she bore striking resemblance to the movie icon in one of her early movies, Love Happy in 1949, before she shed some weight and added what would later become her trademark – a beauty spot on her left cheek.

In the midst of a packed courtroom of members and supporters of the Socialist Party of Malaysia (PSM) many of whom wore red T-shirts, the Kuala Lumpur High Court of Justice Su Geok Yiam turned “yellow” today.
Justice was compromised, as a cowed Court caved in and allowed the application by the Government, Police and Home Minister to adjourn hearing the habeas corpus applications of six PSM leaders who have been held under the Emergency Ordinance since 2 July.
The detainees are Dr Michael Jeyakumar, PSM deputy chairman M. Sarasvathy, central committee members Choo Chon Kai and M. Sukumaran, Sungai Siput branch secretary A. Letchumanan and national Youth chief R. Sarat Babu.
