Forty women from the Sungai Kucing Orang Asli Settlement in Ulu Tembling, Pahang, were found to have contracted syphilis recently, reported Sinar Harian.
The women, who had been given treatment, were currently being monitored by the Health and Orang Asli Development Department.
All the women in the settlement were given a talk on Monday about cultivating a healthy lifestyle and safe sex practices by the authorities.
Rural Development and Orang Asli Affairs Department director Datuk Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the situation at the settlement was under control.
He said the women were advised on the dangers of contracting syphilis and avoiding sexual contact with foreign immigrants working in nearby oil palm plantations.
