WHITNEY Houston's daughter Bobbi Kristina went missing for several hours and was discovered getting high on drugs after her mother's funeral, two family sources told The Daily Beast.
Following the singer's funeral, at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey, the 18-year-old disappeared and was found hours later at a hotel doing drugs, according to a source who was with the family when they received the news. A second source confirmed the story.
"Everyone was freaking out and calling Bobbi Kristina's cell," one family friend said. "It was so much commotion and activity after the funeral that Bobbi Kristina just slipped away. Ms. Cissy [Houston, Whitney's mother] was beside herself.
"Cissy and others won't admit out loud that Bobbi Kristina has a drug problem," the source told The Daily Beast. "But they know it and have been trying to keep her straight even before Whitney passed."
The teenager, who was hospitalised for "stress and anxiety" the day after her mother's death, was said to be upset that her dad Bobby Brown left the funeral following a disagreement over seating arrangements.
"That was just too much for Bobbi Kristina to handle," another source said. "All that drama, and Cissy finally asked him to come in and stay, but Bobby wouldn't. Cissy only did that to help Bobbi Kristina, because Cissy cannot stand Bobby."
A spokesperson for the Houston family denied Bobbi Kristina was on drugs and said she just needed some time alone.
"There was some confusion about Bobbi Kristina's whereabouts last night for a short time, but she's OK," a spokesperson told The Daily Beast. "She needed some time alone ... she is going through a very hard time as you can expect."
But The Daily Beast reported that friends said they expected Bobbi Kristina to fly to a California rehab facility for treatment after memorial services for her mother ended.
Bobbi Kristina also entered rehab for a drug problem early last year, The Daily Beast reported.
At the time, a picture of her using cocaine surfaced on the Internet. The teen admitted the picture was her but said she had been set up.
Houston was buried next to her father in a private ceremony at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, New Jersey.
A beige hearse bearing a picture of the singer in the window and playing “I Will Always Love You” carried her body to the burial site.
Onlookers throwing roses, lilies and tulips lined the route to her gravesite as a police motorcade escorted the hearse and her family.
Daniel Berke, 18, of Westfield, one of about 100 neighbors who turned out, held a sign saying, “Whitney, we will always love you!”
"All her music was so inspirational. She was amazing. I just came to show my support for a great artist," he said.
The Newark church that held Houston’s funeral on Saturday still had the service’s flowers out a day later. The Rev. Joe Carter addressed the New Hope Baptist Church congregation after returning from the burial.
"Lord, we thank You for Your servant, Whitney Houston,” Carter said. “Let’s give praise to Whitney Houston!
"I was with the Houston family, and I want you to know that God has folded her into ... black history. (Whitney’s mom) Cissy Houston wanted me to tell you, ‘Thank you so much, church."
Houston died on February 11 at age 48 at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles after years of struggle with drugs and alcohol. Her cause of death has not been officially determined.
Website TMZ reported that her family meticulously stripped down the hotel room where the pop star was found dead, removing bed sheets, towels and even trash in a bid to prevent looters raiding the room and selling items as souvenirs.
