KUALA LUMPUR, -- Former information minister Tan Sri Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir has been urged to declare whether he was still supporting the Barisan Nasional (BN) or has jumped ship.
Zamil Ibrahim, who claims to have become the president of Parti Kesejahteraan Insan Tanah Air (Kita), lashed out at Abdul Kadir for being tight-lipped on his stand despite criticising the government.
"He is still an Umno member, but at the same time he threw a barrage of criticism at the government like an opposition supporter. We urge him to publicise his stand immediately.
"He should answer claims of being associated with Anwar(opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim), whether he (Abdul Kadir) is still waiting for Anwar's scripts (orchestration of phrases)?," said Zamil when contacted today.
Abdul Kadir, who recently claimed that the BN bought votes ranging from RM200 to RM1,000 in the last general election, said he was prepared to face the Umno Disciplinary Committee for making statements deemed to have jeopardised the party.
Zamil said many quarters would like to know whether Abdul Kadir was taken in by Anwar's promises for making relentless criticisms against Umno which he joined in 1969.
"As a veteran leader with vast experience in politics, Abdul Kadir should not stoop so low to allow himself to be used by certain quarters.
"If he does not change his way, it is better for him to join Kita or the opposition. As a former leader, who is well respected, he should retire respectably," said Zamil.
