Kick out the liars — Lucius Goon

MARCH 27 — Let’s kick out the scoundrels and cheats and crooks. But more importantly, let’s kick out people who think they can lie to us and outsmart us with their doublespeak.

I read The Malaysian Insider every morning and had the unpleasant experience of reading the de facto Law Minister Nazri Aziz giving blanket protection to the scandals of the Najib era: the National Feedlot Corporation, Lynas and the government’s gift to Tajudin Ramli.

Nazri said that it is subjudice to discuss these cases in Parliament because
the cases have not been disposed off by the courts. He obviously is trying to hoodwink Malaysians.

The Malaysian Insider reported recently that the High Court (affirmed by the Court of Appeal) urged caution in relying on the subjudice law. It noted that Malaysia does not have jury trials and therefore professional judges are not expected to be influenced by discussions on the merits of the case outside the courtroom.

The judge also reportedly said that constitutional guarantees like freedom of speech must be given weight.

So Nazri and the government are happy to hide behind subjudice but have no respect for judicial pronouncements on the subjudice law.

The Najib government does not stand for anything; it only wants to protect its mistakes and corrupt ways. Nazri says that Tajudin’s case cannot be discussed in Parliament because the case is still before the courts.

This is not true. His sweet deal which absolves him from paying a court judgment of nearly RM850 million (including interest) to Danaharta is completed.

The government gave Tajudin a free pass because the former MAS boss apparently was willing to drag Mahathir Mohamad and Daim Zainuddin into the mix over his troubled tenure at MAS.

Basically, we have a government which will lie, twist legal precepts to stay in power. And if this means protecting wrongdoing, so be it.

We are the fools if we continue to support these scoundrels.
