Umno leaders accept Shahrizat’s exit
KUALA LUMPUR, March 11 — Umno leaders welcomed Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil’s announcement that she is relinquishing her ministerial post on April 8, Bernama reported.
Vice-president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal said it came at the right time to protect Umno and Barisan Nasional’s (BN) interest. He said it was not about her being guilty or not in relations to the NFCorp scandal.

said also that women should be upset by reducing the number of female ministers with Shahrizat’s exit, as the government was committed to protect female interests and recognise their contribution to the country.
Earlier today Shahrizat told media that she will cease to be a senator when her term expires in April, and also step down as minister of women, family and community development. But she will continue as chief for both Wanita Umno chief and Wanita BN.
Information chief Datuk Ahmad Maslan said Shahrizat was sacrificing herself and Pakatan Rakyat should not create confusion over the decision.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein was receptive to Shahrizat’s decision.
The Umno vice-president said however that it would not been an easy decision by S
hahrizat. He ensured that he would continue to work with Shahrizat regarding Wanita Umno issues.
