PETALING JAYA: Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim may have given up on DAP but it appears that his former party is not ready to give up on him.
Barely 24-hours after his resignation as DAP national vice-chairman, the party has reached out in an attempt at reconciliation and has expressed hope that he will reconsider his decision.

DAP secretary-general, Lim Guan Eng, in a statement today said that DAP is “big enough” for Tunku Aziz to retain his former position and accommodate his “irreconciliable differences” with the party over the Bersih 3.0 rally.
“I would like to express my sadness at Tunku’s announcement,” he said. “DAP believs in freedom of speech and that every member and leader has a right to differ.”
“Despite Tunku’s open dissent, the DAP leadership wants him to remain as vice-chairman and resolve any differences in the spirit of comradeship.”
Tunku Aziz and the DAP leadership clashed in opinions over the April 3.0 rally with former branding it as an encouragement of Malaysians to “break the law” and the latter throwing its full support behind the gathering.
In the aftermath of what turned out to be a violent rally, Tunku Aziz appeared to pin sole responsibility on Bersih 3.0 organisers whom he described as “not a group of angels descended from heaven who are completely blameless”.
His statements resulted in a sharp reprimand from Lim himself for placing the party in an “embarrassing position”.
Tunku Aziz subseqeuntly chose not to be re-nominated as a senator for Penang when his term expires at the end of this month despite speculation that he was dropped for breaking party ranks.
Yesterday he announced his resignation from the party after his suggestion that he be subjected to the “same disciplinary procedure as any party member” was not taken up.
Lim however said that he didn’t agree for disciplinary action to be taken against Tunku over the matter.
“Indeed there was general unhappiness at all levels in the party that he openly went against the party official position on Bersih before and after rally,” he admitted.
“However just as Tunku has the right to openly voice his dissent, the party’s right to state its position on such a fundamental policy position as Bersih must also be respected.”
Lim further clarified that DAP did not punish Tunku Aziz fo voicing his dissent nor at any time asked him to leave or resign.
“I feel sad that he left because of differences over Bersih,” he said. “After all Tunku joined DAP because we offered a platform to promote integrity and fight corruption.”
Lim added that he would contact Tunku to meet and discuss the matter in the hopes that the latter would change his mind.
