NEW DELHI—A Tibetan exile lit himself on fire and ran shouting through a demonstration in the Indian capital Monday, just before a visit by China's president and following dozens of self-immolations done in China in protest of its rule over Tibet.

Indian police swept through the New Delhi protest a few hours later, detaining scores of Tibetans.

The man apparently had doused himself with something highly flammable and was engulfed in flames when he ran past the podium where speakers were criticizing China and President Hu Jintao's visit.

Topless feminists protest at Davos Summit

Unknown | 10:55 PM | | | | Best Blogger Tips

Three topless Ukrainian protesters were detained today as they bid to break into an invitation-only gathering of CEOs and political leaders to call attention to the needs of the world's poor.

With temperatures around freezing in the snow-filled town, they took off their tops and tried to climb a fence before being detained.

After a complicated journey to reach the heavily guarded Swiss resort town of Davos, the Ukrainians arrived at the entrance to the complex where the World Economic Forum takes place every year.

Dozens join in nude protest

Unknown | 4:52 PM | | | | Best Blogger Tips

Several dozen men and at least one woman took part in a naked protest in San Francisco, United States.
Several of them carried signs that read, "Nudity is Not a Crime" and "Get Your Hate Off My Body," as they milled around, undeterred by the brisk weather and light mist in an area of the Castro District neighborhood on Saturday.
San Francisco generally allows public nudity, but a city supervisor has proposed regulating the practice.
Supervisor Scott Wiener's proposal would require the clothing-averse to cover up in restaurants.

Women groups protest massage-cum-sex centres

Unknown | 5:49 AM | | | | | Best Blogger Tips

PETALING JAYA - A group of women NGOs is outraged over the rising number of massage parlours in Selangor, saying these vice dens have caused much heartbreak to many families.

They said innocent lives had been affected when husbands, fathers and even sons became regulars of the illicit services offered at some of the outlets.
“Many families have been affected by the mushrooming of these massage centres.
“Money that is meant for the family is spent on unnecessary activities,” beautician and Malaysian Beauty Therapy Association president Datin Clara Chee said.
Teenagers, she said, were also being lured to such places.
“Family values are affected and this is bad for the moral fibre of society,” she said yesterday.
Chee was joined by representatives from the Federation of Kwang Tung Associations (Women Section), Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Hua Zong), the Malaysian Chinese Women Entrepreneurs Foundation, Malaysia Hindu Sangam and several other groups.
The Federation of Kwang Tung Associations (Women Section), which was represented by Chong Moi Heong, said it was high time the state government drew the line and regulate the licence holders and clamp down on illegal operators.
“If this does not happen, it may lead to serious social problems,” she said.
Last month, The Star exclusively reported that massage centres and reflexology outlets were just a front for masseuses who offered sexual favours for between RM50 and RM150.
These vice dens can be found throughout Selangor.
The Selangor Government has denied issuing new licences since 2008.
However, many operators of these places had set up business complete with signboards to advertise their supposedly legitimate services.
State Local Government Committee chairman Ronnie Liu said only 60 massage and foot reflexology centres in Selangor had been issued licences, with most of them in Ampang Jaya.
However, Wanita MCA secretary-general Senator Chew Lee Giok claimed last week that there were about 220 massage centres in Petaling Jaya alone.

Woman dances on car roof in protest

Unknown | 2:13 AM | | | | Best Blogger Tips

A lady driver has carried out a weird protest against a traffic policeman in China.
The woman, in her 20s, was caught for illegal parking in front of a wholesale market in Guangzhou recently.
After the cop served her a summon, the woman suddenly went bizarre and sat on her white Audi car bonnet while waving her hands.
Then, she stood up and started dancing as she climbed onto the roof of the vehicle.
The incident was captured on tape and uploaded on the Internet. The woman's identity however, is not revealed.
The incident came shortly after another lady driver was caught for traffic violation in Changchun city of Jilin province.
The woman had parked her red Mazda 6 - without a number plate - in the middle of a two-lane road, seriously obstructing the traffic flow.
Two traffic policemen, who were despatched to ease the situation, had asked her to move her car. But she remained seated in the vehicle and ignored them.
Seeing that her car was about to be towed away, she opened the door and asked the cops to talk to "somebody" over the phone but they refused.
The angry woman then alighted from her car, argued with the policemen while grabbing one of their shirts, but the cops insisted on towing the vehicle away.
She then threw her tantrums at a reporter, snatched away his video camera and smashed it against the ground.

PETA Holds Naked Shower Protest in Hollywood – And Causes Car Crash

Unknown | 1:30 PM | | | | | | | | | Best Blogger Tips

To be fair, it’s not something you’d expect to see while driving – even in LA. Cameras were rolling yesterday when animal rights group PETA caused a car crash during a naked shower protest.

The driver had been distracted by the beautiful, naked models soaping themselves in a makeshift shower on the side of the road.
He ploughed his grey sedan straight into the back of a white pick-up truck at a stoplight in front of him.
CBS cameras captured the entire incident. Fortunately the damage appeared to be minimal, and the only thing wounded seemed to be the driver’s pride.
PETA’s models were baring all and showering in public to promote a vegan lifestyle.
The group claims that by giving up just one pound of meat, Americans could save up to 2,463 gallons of water.
That’s six months of shower water, PETA claimed.
But the American Meat Association hit back in comments to CBS, claiming that the industry is constantly trying to find ways to economize on water.
‘Sometimes, when people do these sorts of carbon-footprint analysis, the obvious answer is the opposite of what they thought it was,’ spokesman Jeremy Russell told the network.
‘Water use is actually quite expensive for meat companies. There is a constant pressure, an economic pressure on them, to become more and more efficient in how they use water.’
