SINGAPORE - He calls her "love" and she responds with "my baby".

She is, he says, both his mother and father. He is, she says, her light out of the darkness.

But beneath this love which mother and son share lies a sordid secret that few, except for immediate family and very close friends, know.

He is no love child, but one who was conceived after she was raped by at least three men. She was so drunk that she cannot remember exact details.

Not that she wants to.

It's a past that Alexis tries not to revisit, she admits readily in an interview with The New Paper on Sunday.

"I have moved on with my life," says the 49-year-old administrator and part-time security guard. Her son is now 20.

TAIWAN - A trip to Taiwan turned tragic for a Singapore family when one of them was found dead at a hot springs resort.

Madam Ser Chwee Tiang, 67, was discovered face down in the water by relatives.

She had left on a two-week trip on Nov 9 with her sister, brother and a friend, to catch up with relatives and friends.

On Nov 22, the group decided to visit a famous hot springs resort at Beitou, a northern district of Taipei, and try the hot spa there.

One of Madam Ser's two sons, Mr Wu Fusheng, 37, told The New Paper that his mother, her friends and relatives had booked a 40-minute session at the resort some time before 6pm.

Singapore woman helps save group from drowning at Desaru

It was meant to be a relaxing beach getaway during the long Chinese New Year break.

But Singaporean Rita Zuhaida Mohd Nazeer, 24, her best friend and her nephew found themselves fighting strong currents to save a group of seven Malaysians from drowning.

The incident took place on Monday at about 1.30pm at Tanjung Balau near Desaru, Johor, an area that has seen eight drowning deaths since last November.

While Miss Rita Zuhaida, an accountant with the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore, and her companions can swim, they are not trained in rescue techniques.

Yet they saved a girl and two men.
