KUALA LUMPUR - A man threatened to post nude photos of his former girlfriend online after she broke up with him.
Student Phang K.M., 20, said the man assaulted her whenever she expressed dissatisfaction over their two-month relationship.
“After quarrelling, he would punch my arms, slap my face and even used cigarettes to burn my skin,” she said at a press conference held by MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Michael Chong yesterday.
“I don't even know if he is a student or is working. I never see him leave home. And he keeps asking me for money,” she said, adding that the suspect moved in with her last month.
She explained that they met through Facebook.
“He gave me the impression that he was well-off. But after a while, I saw his true colours,” she said.
Phang managed to take the man's mobile phone and the memory card containing the nude photos of her before leaving him. “But I am worried he may have copies.”
She lodged a police report at the Setapak police station on Thursday.
Chong said that as of June, the department had received four similar complaints.
The department received 30 such reports last year.
“The victims are mostly female,” said Chong.
“Frustrated ex-husbands and former boyfriends would harass victims before they character assassinate them.”
He added that this cowardly act was done out of revenge and to shame the spouse for leaving them.
He said Phang wanted to settle the matter without involving the authorities.
“The former boyfriend, however, failed to turn up for any of the meetings we had set up,” said Chong. “This is a serious matter as the victim had been assaulted.”
