After days of swirling speculation and mounting outrage over how Rosman Mansor, the wife of Prime Minister Najib Razak, could afford to blow RM24.4 million on an elephantine diamond ring, PKR Youth leader Badrul Hisham Shahrin has lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission.
"We have no choice but to lodge the report because if we were to ask her or her staff, is this true? Do you think they will answer us? The questions arise, where did she or even Najib get so much money to buy the diamond ring. Secondly, why was there no customs duty paid on the ring. Did Najib as Finance minister abuse his power?" Badrul told Malaysia Chronicle.
"We wish to stress we cannot just dismiss this as rumour spread by her enemies. We have received the screenshots of what looks the Customs computer database or Sistem Maklumat Kastam. And after doing our checks and comparison, we believe there is a serious case for the MACC to investigate,"
Rosmah challenge to clarify
Based on the visuals provided by Badrul, the ring was exported by Jacob & Co, a New York-based firm, and imported care of Malca Amit through one Jeremy Beh Sin Tee. It was also stated that inspection was to be done by Rosmah herself.
The declarant was an A Krishnan, an operation manager and the invoice number 20110002294 dated 15 April 2011. The agent was Airoceanic Express Sdn Bhd, which is based in Petaling Jaya.
The ring was described as a 'Natural Fancy Blue Gray Cushion Cut Diamond Ring'. The full price stated was RM24,458,400-00 and no duty was stated in the column where the Customs normally inserts the amount.
Badrul, who is also known as Chegubard to his supporters, said the ball was now in Rosmah's court. Based on his unit's checks so far, Jacob & Co had a chain of super exclusive retail outlets in most of the big cities in the world.
"We also did studies on Rosmah's apparel and the jewellery she wears and we noticed that many of the items are consistent with the designs from Jacob & Co. We challenge her to deny she ordered the ring and we also want her to explain how is it that her name can come out in the Customs' database," said Badrul.
