From party girl to gold-digger - Singaporean actress Fiona Xie has been ascribed with many labels.
It has been two years since the 29-year-old former MediaCorp darling left the entertainment scene and jetted off the island republic, but it would appear that Xie’s years away has not diminished her popularity at all.
As testament to her star-power (or notoriety), Xie found herself in the hotspot again when she was fired with blatant allegations during her recent trip back home.
The Singaporean media went as far as asking if she was selling herself as a “star-for-hire” at private parties in New York, where she resided.
“I haven’t heard that one before. That’s odd, because it’s libellous,” Xie said firmly.
“Like it or not, female artistes are often associated with these kind of things. I’m not angry but it’s insulting. We earn our own money through blood, tears and having our freedom curbed. Why would we go to such an extend to sell out?”
Xie also denied allegations that she was living off a rich man in New York in a recent interview with Shin Min Daily News. She said she financed all her own expenses while she was living there.
The starlet also denied quitting showbiz two years ago because she was pregnant, adding that her current romance with her Australia-American boyfriend is going well.
However, Xie was quoted telling The New Paper: "I don't know when I'll get married. When you are happy, you don't need to have it set in stone. I don't need that validation, and paper doesn't mean bliss."
