SINGAPORE - When the part-time tutor received a call from a student living in the same block about a woman falling to the ground floor, she ran to the window to look.

But what she saw frightened her so much that she did not dare to go downstairs.Instead, she passed a piece of cloth to her 20-year-old daughter, 17-year-old niece and a female student, and asked them to cover the woman, a maid, lying naked on the ground.

She told the court: “I asked my daughter if she dared to go downstairs and cover the woman. I was scared.”

Bomoh convinced woman to have sex him for father's health

KOTA KINABALU, Malaysia - A local bomoh, who convinced a woman to have sex with him for her father's health, has been arrested for rape in Lahad Datu.
The bomoh had told the 21-year-old woman that his semen was needed to help treat her father and took her to a river to perform a so-called ritual bath before allegedly raping her.


Acting Lahad Datu police chief Asst Supt Ang Seow Aun said the 27-year-old suspect told the woman to follow all the stages of treatment or her father would not recover.


ASP Ang said the woman was introduced to the bomoh by her cousin's husband, adding that she took her father to the bomoh's house last Monday.


The woman lodged a report upon realising she was fooled by the man who took off following the incident, he said, adding that police managed to detain the suspect later.

Loan agreement shows NFCorp broke terms, says Pua

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 25 — DAP MP Tony Pua today revealed the loan agreement signed by the National Feedlot Corporation (NFCorp), which he claimed proved the company had violated conditions attached to the RM250 million facility.

The DAP publicity chief pointed out that Clause 3 of the agreement clearly states that the federal loan should be used to “part finance the project as described in the First Schedule of this agreement”.

The First Schedule states that use of the loan must be “consistent with the government of Malaysia’s policy of developing, promoting and nurturing the production of beef and beef products through the National Feedlot Centre as a centre for commercial and integrated cattle feedlot”.

KUALA LUMPUR — Imam Hoslan Hussin, who in a fit of rage threw shoes at a panel of judges on Wednesday, has blamed his outburst on his former life as a Mat Rempit.

Hossin told The Malay Mail he first took off and threw his left shoe at the Federal Court judges and managed to launch the other shoe before he was restrained by police.

“I blame my hot-tempered persona on my former life. In the ‘80s, I was an illegal street racer. But that life is no more,” he told the daily on Thursday.

KUALA LUMPUR — The abuse of the New Economic Policy (NEP) has worsened the economic imbalance between poor Malays and other races, Pakatan Rakyat (PR) lawmakers said today.

Opposition leaders say the NEP, which was intended to raise the participation of Bumiputeras in all economic sectors, had instead nurtured and cultivated “instant millionaires” and politically-connected businessmen aligned to former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed.

PR lawmakers who spoke to The Malaysian Insider agreed with the remarks made by former finance minister Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, who said this morning the NEP  was never meant to create an incubated class of Malay capitalists but to address poverty and to raise the level of Malay participation in the economy.

A four-year-old boy was abused to death by his grandmother, authorities say.


Gabriel Trujillo was found unconscious on Valentine’s Day at the Commerce City, Colorado home of his grandmother, Doris Becky Trujillo.


Trujillo, 60, had had custody of Gabriel and his older sisters Krista and Monique since last year.


The little boy was rushed to Children’s Hospital Colorado in Aurora but died on Friday when life support was removed, the Denver Post reported.

Professor caught with student prostitute

An associate professor was caught in the act with a student prostitute during an anti-vice operation in Taiwan.

As all of you are aware, our nation became free from the fetters of colonial domination about five-and-a-half decades ago.Sadly and strangely, after 55 years of independence, I think we are farther apart now than we have ever been before.

On August 31, 1957 our freedom from the shackles of a colonial past was greeted with euphoria by the different races who came together on the basis of a common vision for a shared future.

We then had a prime minister who believed that the purpose of independence was the pursuit of happiness for the different races in the country, and our success in that pursuit was to him the ultimate test of our success as a nation.

Gangland-style violence erupts in squeaky clean S'pore

SINGAPORE - A youth involved in the Downtown East murder of a 19-year-old pleaded guilty to a reduced charge on Wednesday - the first of the 12 suspects involved in the case.

Full-time national serviceman Jason Chew Wei Beng, 21, admitted to one charge of rioting and another of voluntarily causing hurt, The Straits Times reported.

Chew was originally accused of murdering Darren Ng Wei Jie while being part of an unlawful assembly at the main foyer of Downtown East , Pasir Ris Close on October 30, 2010.

Malaysian nabbed over S$22,000 theft at Genting’s Singapore casino

KUALA LUMPUR — Singapore police today arrested a 30-year-old Malaysian woman who is believed to have stolen S$22,000 (RM52,876) from a man at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) in the island republic, the Singapore Straits Times reported.

According to the newspaper, a 38-year-old man reported to the police last December that his money amounting to S$22,000 had been stolen by a female suspect who had earlier befriended him at the RWS casino.

When the police arrived, the suspect was no longer at the scene, according to the report posted on the newspaper’s website this afternoon.

Officers from the Clementi Police Division carried out an extensive follow-up investigation, and arrested the suspect at the Marina Bay Sands (MBS) hotel early this morning.

If found guilty of the offence, the suspect could face seven years’ imprisonment and a fine.
