KUALA LUMPUR, March 22 — Lim Guan Eng believes that his Pakatan Rakyat (PR) pact needs to win just 100 federal seats in a general election that must be called by May next year to take over Putrajaya as “Umno will implode.”

The DAP secretary-general said PR “might not be able to make” up the 112 lawmakers for a majority in Parliament in its first federal polls as a formal coalition but the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) will collapse if the national opposition holds the majority in the peninsula.

“This election is harder. We might not be able to make it; we don’t need 112 seats to win power. Just 100.

Putrajaya can afford RM50b to scrap highway tolls, says Guan Eng

KUALA LUMPUR, March 1 — DAP’s Lim Guan Eng today denounced the federal government for striking a lopsided deal that benefitted highway toll companies without public consultation, arguing that it could afford to pay RM50 billion to abolish the concessions.

The Penang chief minister accused Putrajaya of “victimising” Penangites when it decided to extend the length of toll charges for two highway companies for another 17 years in exchange for not raising the rates by only 10 per cent.

He argued that if Penangites were given a choice, they would have rather paid the 15 to 25 per cent hikes every five years until 2021, compared to forking over money until 2038 to use the Penang Bridge and the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE).

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5 — MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek should ban party members from attending events organised by Malay rights group Perkasa, Lim Guan Eng said today. 

The DAP secretary-general said allowing MCA members to join in on such events not only proved the Barisan Nasional (BN) component party’s links to Perkasa but lent the group legitimacy despite its alleged “racist and extremist” character. 

“How can Chua and MCA claim to defend the interests of Malaysian Chinese when their members and supporters can go to Perkasa functions that breed hate against non-Malays in the country and want to reduce them to second-class or third-class citizens?

Guan Eng: No excuse to raise toll, operators already making big money

DAP secretary-general Lm Guan Eng said there was no excuse for the federal government to increase toll rates because the major highway concessionaires had already recovered their construction costs and were already making "exorbitant" profits.

"This is a cash cow at our expense. We want to know why the toll rates keep on increasing. They are already making money. Project Lebuhraya Utara Selatan is the most glaring example and its concession will last until 2039," Guan Eng told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.
