Bah! Humbug! To Najib's religious acceptance, not tolerance

Najib must have thought he scored it big with an audience at the Vatican. A photo-op with the Pope, one of the most influential leaders on the global scene, was a tick on his Prime Minister to-do list. It was one-up on his predecessors and on par with Mahathir.

Make no mistake, the visit to the Vatican had nothing to do with mending the rift between Christians and the government of Malaysia, and though officially it was to establish diplomatic relations with the Vatican; it was all primarily a photo-op session with the Pope. A public relations stunt, so obviously unveiled when Najib presented a book to Pope Benedict XVI entitled “Najib”.

How pompous can you get? Najib the prime minister of Malaysia, presented a book on himself to the leader of 1.2 billion Catholics. The Pope, whom leaders of nations humbly visit, must have wondered what quality of leadership did Najib have that allowed him to be chosen as prime minister.

BN season for racial, religious politicking begins: DU church raided

It looks like the season for racial and religious politicking has begun. Prime Minister Najib Razak has given it the flag-off as his UMNO party looks to draw Malay voters closer to its fold ahead of snap general elections widely expected to be held within the October-November period.

Police and the religious authorities in Selangor, a state which Najib is under tremendous pressure to regain, raided a multi-racial dinner held at Dream Centre building, which also houses the Damansara Utama Methodist Church, based on a vague complaint. The building has many dinner event and seminar rooms apart from the ccordinchurch hall.

Christians disgusted Najib is back to religious bigotry after papal visit

Prime Minister Najib Razak seems to be creating more problems for himself each time he opens his mouth to speak. After visiting Pope Benedict XVI, a number of Christians here hoped that he would be more understanding towards other faiths in Malaysia.

Instead, the PM put his foot into his mouth when he returned, sparking cynicism within the Christian community that those who had criticised him were right.

The PM was a "gas-bag" who said nice things to the Pope and the outside world, but shows his true colours the moment he is home by reverting to racial and religious politicking, they slammed.

“The government will engage with Christian groups here that love peace and respect the country’s Islamic leadership. We wish to tell our friends the Malaysian Christians… if they respect us, we will also respect them,” Bernama had reported Najib as saying.

Religious leaders rebuke Najib for lack of understanding, compassion to Bersih

An interfaith group has rebuked the Najib administration for not dealing with the high-profile Bersih 2.0 rally with "understanding, compassion, honesty and respect", adding that if it had done do, the "untoward events" could have been prevented.
