The PAS central committee has rejected the offer by Tuan Guru Abdul Hadi Awang (pic) not to be nominated as candidate for the general election, saying the party president must stand as a candidate.
PAS information chief Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, saying it was a unanimous decision with which Hadi has agreed, said it was reached during a high powered political bureau meeting last Wednesday.
Hadi had earlier mulled two options - to stay away from the elections or to context only in one seat.
Top Pakatan Rakyat leaders including PAS Murshidul Am Tuan Guru Nik Aziz Nik Mat, DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang and Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim had however said Hadi must stay on.
Hadi, the former Terengganu Menteri Besar, is presently member of parliament for Marang and state assemblyman for Rhu Rendang.
