Hadi to stay on and contest

The PAS central committee has rejected the offer by Tuan Guru Abdul Hadi Awang (pic) not to be nominated as candidate for the general election, saying the party president must stand as a candidate.

PAS information chief Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, saying it was a unanimous decision with which Hadi has agreed, said it was reached during a high powered political bureau meeting last Wednesday.

Hadi had earlier mulled two options - to stay away from the elections or to context only in one seat. 

Top Pakatan Rakyat leaders including PAS Murshidul Am Tuan Guru Nik Aziz Nik Mat, DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang and Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim had however said Hadi must stay on.

Hadi, the former Terengganu Menteri Besar, is presently member of parliament for Marang and state assemblyman for Rhu Rendang.

Breast-touching festival is on in China

The Chinese have entered the seventh month of the Lunar calendar, known as the Hungry Ghost month, which began July 31.

This period is considered unlucky for many Chinese as they believe that the ghosts are allowed to return to the human realm as the Hell Gate opens throughout the month.

While the Buddhists and Taoists prepare offerings for the homeless ghosts, a minority tribe in China have their own interesting celebration.

The Yi people in Ejia town of Yunnan province, who are still singles, will head to the streets for Breast-Touching Festival (Monai Jie) on the 14th, 15th and 16th days of the month.

On these days, the men are welcome to touch the women's breasts.

Legend has it that the festival began around the Sui Dynasty (AD 581 – 619) when most of the teenagers of the Yi tribe were forced into the army and died in wars.

The people then carried out prayers to commemorate the dead, and it happened that the ceremony was held in the seventh month.

According to the wizards, the dead were unrest because they had not touched a woman before.

And so, they wanted 10 "pure and untouched" ladies to accompany them in the afterworld.

In a move to prevent them from being chosen, the single women – aged 15 and above - then asked the men to touch their breasts, and the custom is past down for generations.

It has now emerged that the man, in his 40s, sheepishly returned to the Savoy and asked if his missing items had been handed in.

Staff barely suppressed giggles as they recognised the man who had been tumbling around in the party.

A source said: "We were all relieved to see he hadn't fallen under a train.

"Sadly we hadn't seen his wallet or jacket. It's a miracle he could even remember where he'd been that night."

The mystery reveller was thrown out of the theatre awards do, hosted by Stephen Fry, after he fell over in front of guests including Sir Ian McKellen and Liam Neeson.

He hits a side wall, tumbles, slides down the banister on his torso and does a back-flip on to his head.

He then blows his nose on toilet paper and lands in a gutter before staggering round bleeding for more than six minutes.

New York City Street Execution – Caught on Video

A cold-blooded murder on a New York street was caught in graphic detail on a video from a nearby surveillance camera.

As Trevonne Winn collapses to the ground his attacker fires again, hitting him in the abdomen for a second time.

Trevonne Winn, 24, was gunned down as he stood outside his uncle’s fast food restaurant in Brooklyn. The video shows Mr Winn speaking into his mobile phone outside the Crown Fried Chicken shop when a black-clad man walks calmly over, pulls a pistol and shoots him twice.

As Mr Winn collapses and lies twitching on the ground, his attacker flees the scene and witnesses rush from local shops to see what is happening. Despite Mr Winn’s desperate efforts to get back on his feet, he is soon slumped on the pavement, immobile and apparently dying.

Soon a crowd surrounds the injured man as he lies bleeding to death on the pavement. Seemingly unsure of what to do, or perhaps frightened the gunman might return, bystanders look around warily for several minutes before one approaches Mr Winn to see if he is still alive.

  Shakeem Muhammad, a Flatbush resident who has since spoken to Mr Winn’s family, told NYDailyNews.com the shooting was probably a case of mistaken identity. ‘He probably looked like somebody who probably had some beef,’ he said. But Mr Muhammad added that he wasn’t surprised by the attack. 

‘I’ve seen just about everything that could happen in this community. I renamed this avenue here body-a-week avenue,’ he said. ‘I’ve been here since 1989. I think I’ve seen at least 15 murders on this block in that period of time. It’s a dangerous block.’ Mr Winn, of Jerome Street, was rushed to Kings County Hospital but later he died of his wounds. 

Police said he had a number of arrests in South Carolina. Mourners have set up a small candle vigil for Mr Winn on the spot where he was murdered. Police are asking witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Former Russian Spy Unmasked by FBI Appears on Runway at Moscow Fashion Week – Holding Real Gun

It wasn’t a typical catwalk display. But then, Anna Chapman isn’t your typical catwalk model.

The former Russian spy, who was unmasked working in America by the FBI last year, made a surprise appearance at Moscow Fashion Week in a fur-lined jacket and black leather trousers.

And although the male model beside her – Russian singer Dima Bilan – looks relaxed, that gun Miss Chapman is holding to his throat is no toy but a real weapon which the 29-year-old is licensed to carry.

Despite her past in espionage, however, she did not seem totally at home in handling the weapon, managing to drop it as she took to the catwalk, causing consternation among KGB veterans.

‘For a special agent, a gun is part of your profession. It is sacred and such a careless attitude to it is simply unacceptable,’ one told the local media.

Miss Chapman was showing off clothes by Moscow designers Ilya Shiyan and Yana Rudkovskaya. But she is unlikely to be a catwalk queen for long.

After modeling lingerie and securing her own TV show, she is now poised to become a Russian MP representing Prime Minister Vladimir Putin’s party.

The divorced wife of a former British public schoolboy whose surname she still uses, Miss Chapman is already an activist in the ‘Young Guard’ of the United Russia party, and is tipped to represent her home city of Volgograd in elections later this year.

Teacher Who Advises Colleagues on How to Avoid Affairs With Students Caught Having Sex with 16-Year-Old Student

A teacher who advises colleagues on how to avoid affairs with students was caught having sex with a 16–year-old boy in the back of her car.  Courtney Bowles was found by a police officer naked lying on top of the boy, who was also completely naked, from her school in Colorado.

A partly consumed bottle of vodka was also found in the car with the couple. Bowles, 31, was employed at his school as a teacher’s instructional coach, and her job was to train teachers on how to maintain a professional distance from students. Unfortunately for the teacher, the evidence of her dalliance with the student was rather overwhelming when a police patrol spotted a lone car parked in a park in the town of Loveland. When an officer shone his torch into the car he saw they were having sex.

Pakistani Woman Gang Raped on Orders of Village Elders – “My Life is in Danger” – 13 Men Acquitted

A Pakistani victim of a village council-sanctioned gang rape, who became a symbol of the country’s oppressed women, says her life is in danger after the Supreme Court acquitted 13 men accused of the crime.

The gang rape was an officially sanctioned punishment attack ordered because her 12-year-old brother was judged to have offended a clan’s honor. The ruling leaves just one of the initial 14 suspects in prison. Mukhtaran Mai was attacked on the orders of a village council in Punjab province nine years ago as a punishment because her brother – who was 12 at the time – was judged to have offended the honor of a powerful clan by allegedly having an affair with one of its women.

Mai, aged 30, was an illiterate villager at the time but the seamstress defied taboos and shot to global fame by speaking out about her ordeal and taking her attackers to court. Mai had accused 14 men of being involved in raping her in a stable and in 2002, a court sentenced six of them to death while acquitting the others citing a lack of evidence. But in an appeal, the Lahore High Court not only upheld the eight acquittals but also overturned five of the six convictions. The death penalty for the sixth man, Abdul Khaliq, was commuted to life in prison. Mai appealed to the Supreme Court in 2005 but a three-judge bench rejected her appeal on Thursday, said Gohar Ali Shah, a lawyer for Mai.

‘I’m disappointed. Why was I made to wait for five years if this decision was to be given?’ said a sobbing Mai in a telephone interview from her village in the eastern province of Punjab shortly after the court announced the decision. ‘The accused can kill me and my family when they return home,’ she added. ‘I have lost faith in the courts, and now I am leaving my case to the court of God. I am sure God will punish those who molested me.’ In a further development, the Pakistan Interior Ministry today announced it would provide Mai with security.

Her courage in defying centuries-old rural customs of repressing women won her human rights awards and made her a role model for many women in Pakistan. Two years ago she married a police constable and she now runs a school for girls in her village with donations from the government and supporters at home and abroad. Mai said she would neither flee her village nor the country. ‘Life and death are in the hands of Allah … I will not shut my school and other projects,’ she said. The group Human Rights Watch expressed dismay at the court decision, saying the attack on Mai was a ‘crime that took place in full public view and the perpetrators were publicly identified’. ‘Today’s verdict by the Supreme Court of Pakistan on the Mukhtaran Mai case reflects poorly on the Supreme Court,’ said Ali Dayan Hasan of the U.S.-based rights group. He said Human Rights Watch was particularly concerned about Mai’s safety and called upon on the government to ensure her protection. ‘This is a setback for Mukhtaran Mai, the broader struggle to end violence against women and the cause of an independent, rights-respecting judiciary in Pakistan.’
