LAHAD DATU: Malaysian security forces opened fire at the over 200 Sulu army soldiers holed up at the Felda Sahabat oil palm plantations in Lahad Datu, Sabah, here at around noon today.

According to a Bernama report, two police commandos were killed when a mortar bomb hit Kampung Tanduo, which had been turned into a fortress by the group of armed Filipino intruders.

They were patrolling at one of the posts around the village when the mortar bomb exploded.A Bernama reporter, who was at Felda Sahabat 17 settlement in the area, said the bodies of the two security force personnel were retrieved by the police and shoved into a police truck.

It is learnt that the bodies would be flown to Lahad Datu Hospital.

Raped, killed, dismembered: She called the police but they didn't respond

SEOUL - South Korea's police chief resigned Monday following public fury at a bungled case in which a woman was raped and murdered after frantically calling police for help.

National Police Agency chief Cho Hyun-Oh said he would step down to "take all responsibility... for unpardonable carelessness" by the police and asked the victim's family for forgiveness.

Afghan woman is killed 'for giving birth to a girl'

A woman in north-eastern Afghanistan has been arrested for allegedly strangling her daughter-in-law for giving birth to a third daughter.

The murdered woman's husband, a member of a local militia, is also suspected of involvement but he has since fled.

The murder took place two days ago in Kunduz province. The baby girl, who is now two months old, was not hurt.

The birth of a boy is usually a cause for celebration in Afghanistan but girls are generally seen as a burden.

Judge accepts man who killed former lover did not plan it

A Nigerian man who killed his lover was sentenced to 12 years' jail yesterday after pleading guilty to culpable homicide.

Justice Lee Seiu Kin in High Court said that Amanchukwu Chukwuma, 28, had cruelly snuffed out" Ms Liu Shuhui's life, but the judge accepted that the killing of the woman - Amanchukwu's former lover - was not premeditated.

His lawyer, Mr Wendell Wong, argued that Amanchukwu never planned to kill Ms Liu. The judge agreed that he was provoked at the time of the incident.

However, Amanchukwu admitted to strangling Ms Liu after they became involved in a heated quarrel. Ms Liu's highly decomposed body was eventually found only in her underwear by a town council supervisor on December 29, 2009.

A STAR Wars fan was yesterday jailed for life after murdering his wife in an alleged revenge attack for smashing up his cherished toy collection.

Rickie La-Touche, 30, told a court that his Thai wife Pornpilai Srisroy, 28, had damaged his precious Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker memorabilia.

He later suffocated her during a row and then ran sobbing to his mother who lived nearby.

La-Touche later told police his wife had smashed up his Star Wars collection as part of a campaign to “make his life hell”. He also claimed he “flipped” when she threatened to leave him to go back to Thailand.

La-Touche, also known as Rickie Nehls, was found guilty of murder and was ordered to serve a minimum of 12 years.

A WIFE wept in the dock yesterday as she was accused of killing her husband by pulling the handbrake of their car during a drunken row.

Caroline Meeking, 45, allegedly locked the rear wheels of the vehicle at 60mph when being driven home from a pub after husband Alan, 49, called her a “slut” and said he was leaving her.

The car skidded 21 metres and smashed side-on into a Rover being driven at 50mph on the other side of the road.

TWO Brit women were slaughtered by a Turkish waiter - after one refused to let him marry her daughter, it emerged last night.

Holidaymakers Marion Graham and Kathy Dinsmore, both in their 50s, were taken to a forest where the maniac stabbed them and slit their throats.

Marion's daughter Shannon, 15 - with whom he had been having a relationship - raised the alarm after the pair vanished from the family's holiday home in the popular Turkish resort of Kusadasi.

A jealous wife murdered her two young children to punish her estranged husband after he met another woman, a court heard today. 

Fiona Donnison, 45, suffocated Harry, three, and Elise, two, when she wrongly suspected her husband Paul had started an affair with an old schoolfriend.

She then armed herself with two kitchen knives in an attempt to kill Paul, 48, and blame him for the death of their children, it was alleged.

But Mr Donnison did not return to the family home that night. The next day she handed herself in to police saying she had killed her children.
