Court shocked by tale of murder, sex, wives and videotape

THE father of the murdered Singh siblings today denied he once asked his wife to approach his children's accused killer Max Sica to take part in a sexual threesome.

Vijay Singh was being cross-examined on the eighth day of a Supreme Court trial in Brisbane in which Sica, 41, has pleaded not guilty to murdering Neelma Singh, 24, Kunal Singh, 18, and Sidhi Singh, 12, at their home at Bridgeman Downs, in Brisbane's north, on April 21, 2003.

Barrister Sam Di Carlo, for Sica, put it to Vijay Singh that he had asked his wife Shirley Singh to approach Sica to have sex with them.

He asked if Vijay Singh had thought Sica was gay and would take part in a sexual threesome.

World’s Biggest Family – Man with 39 Wives, 94 Children, 33 Grandchildren

 He is head of the world’s biggest family – and says he is ‘blessed’  to have his 39 wives. Ziona Chana also has 94 children, 14-daughters-in-law and 33 grandchildren.  They live in a 100-room, four story house set amidst the hills of Baktwang village in the Indian state of Mizoram, where the wives sleep in giant communal dormitories.

“I consider myself a lucky man to be the husband of 39 women and head of the world’s largest family.” The family is organized with almost military discipline, with the oldest wife Zathiangi organizing her fellow partners to perform household chores such as cleaning, washing and preparing meals. 

One evening meal can see them pluck 30 chickens, peel 132lb of potatoes and boil up to 220lb of rice. Coincidentally, Mr Chana is also head of a sect that allows members to take as many wives as he wants. He even married ten women in one year, when he was at his most prolific, and enjoys his own double bed while his wives have to make do with communal dormitories.

He keeps the youngest women near to his bedroom with the older members of the family sleeping further away – and there is a rotation system for who visits Mr Chana’s bedroom. Rinkmini, one of Mr Chana’s wives who is 35 years old, said: ‘We stay around him as he is the most important person in the house. He is the most handsome person in the village. She says Mr Chana noticed her on a morning walk in the village 18 years ago and wrote her a letter asking for her hand in marriage. Another of his wives, 

Huntharnghanki, said the entire family gets along well. The family system is reportedly based on “mutual love and respect.” And Mr Chana, whose religious sect has 4,000 members, says he has not stopped looking for new wives. ’To expand my sect, I am willing to go even to the U.S. to marry,’ he said. One of his sons insisted that Mr Chana, whose grandfather also had many wives, marries the poor women from the village so he can look after them.

Malaysia's "obedient wives" anger rights groups

A Malaysian group urging wives to avoid marital problems by fulfilling their husbands' sexual desires like prostitutes has angered politicians and women's rights groups, the New Straits Times reported on Sunday.

The Obedient Wives Club, which was set up by a group of Muslim women, said domestic violence, infidelity and prostitution stemmed from a lack of belief in God and a failure of women to satisfy their husbands.

The club's president, Rohaya Mohamed, said it was open to women of all religions and would conduct seminars on how to be a good wife as well as offer marriage counseling.

"A man married to a woman who is as good or better than a prostitute in bed has no reason to stray. Rather than allowing him to sin, a woman must do all she can to ensure his desires are met," Rohaya told the newspaper.

Females outnumber males in Malaysian higher education institutions, comprising 65 percent of the intake at public universities last year, according to government data.

But rights groups say women are still often victims of gender bias, and have protested what they considered the club's demeaning portrayal of women as a cause of social problems.

"Abusive men often use women's behavior as a sick justification, but in the end, their actions are their responsibility," said Ratna Osman, acting executive director at rights group Sisters-in-Islam.

"To hinge fidelity, domestic violence and the fulfillment of a husband's responsibilities purely on a wife's capacity to be obedient, stimulate sexual arousal ... is not only demeaning to wives, but to husbands as well," said Women, Family and Community Development Minister Shahrizat Jalil.
