Japanese star charged with Taiwan taxi driver assault

TAIPEI - A Japanese entertainer has been charged with attacking a Taiwanese taxi driver, prosecutors said Saturday, in an incident that has triggered public anger on the island.

Singer-actress Makiyo faces a four-year jail term for allegedly being involved in the assault and then trying to cover up her role, they said.

Prosecutors also sought a six-year jail term for her friend Takateru Tomoyori for allegedly severely injuring the driver with "violent and brutal means" during the February 2 assault in Taipei.

Sisters Charged For Sexually Assaulting Man With Pliers

Two Wisconsin sisters are facing criminal charges for allegedly sexually assaulting a man with a pair of pliers after having forced him to drink a glass of urine, police allege.

A harrowing criminal complaint does not offer a motive for the attack, which occurred four months ago and resulted last Friday in the filing of felony and misdemeanor charges against Valerie Bartkey, 24, and Amanda Johnson, 17.

The victim, a high school student, told the St. Croix Sheriff’s Department that he was playing Xbox at home when Johnson called and invited him to hang out with her. He accepted her offer and subsequently ended up at the home of a mutual friend, a 16-year-old boy identified in the complaint by the initials “AJK.”

M'sian student charged for trying to murder gf

A private college student was charged at the Ampang Sessions Court Tuesday with attempted murder of his girlfriend.

Osleh Osman, 20, however claimed trial before judge Manira Mohd Nor to stabbing Nor Azlin Yusuf, 20, with a knife in the conference room at Kolej Ican, Tingkat 10, Menara Maxis Segar, Jalan Pandan Indah 4/2, Pandan Indah, Ampang Jaya at 10.30pm on Jan 11, 2012.

If found guilty he faces 10 years' jail and liable to fine under Section 307(1) of the Penal Code.

Wife charged with assaulting husband

An Administrative and Diplomatic (PTD) officer pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court here today to a charge with hitting her husband with an office file nine months ago.

Kamaliah Basir, 35, is charged with voluntarily causing hurt to Zaihan Md Lani, 48, by hitting him with an office file while in a car at the Persiaran Semarak Api and Persiaran Apec traffic light intersection, Cyberjaya, Sepang, here at 12.45pm last March 3.

She is charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code which provides imprisonment for up to a year or fine up to RM2,000 or both, if found guilty.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Aqeeb Lizalman requested that bail be set at RM2,000.

However, Sessions Court judge Zurina Mohamed Nor, who sat as Magistrate, set bail at RM1,800 and fixed Feb 9 for mention.

Ex-politician charged with having sex with child

A former Australian politician has pleaded not guilty to having sex with a 12-year-old girl prostituted by her own mother.

Terry Martin, an ex-politician in Tasmania, pleaded not guilty to three charges relating to an alleged incident from September, 2009, The Mercury  reported.

Martin is alleged to have met the child at his home and is charged with having sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 17.

He's also charged with indecent assault of a person under 17, and one charge of producing child exploitation material.

AMPANG: Three Cameroonians jointly claimed trial at the Sessions Court here yesterday to committing culpable homicide not amounting to murder against a Japanese businessman.

Ndele Innocent Kufor, 27, Celestin Nzogne, 35, and Balack Mabe Jean Paul, 20, allegedly caused the death of Hirokazu Miyashita, 51, at a room at Hotel De Palma in Ampang on Aug 22.

Bangladeshi men charged with killing woman, son

KUALA LUMPUR : Two Bangladeshi men were charged in the Ampang Magistrate's Court here today with the murders of a woman and her two-year-old son whose bodies were found cut into pieces at a condominium unit in Ampang last month.

Abd Razak Tofazzalhossain and Mmd Ripin Mondal Krndaboss are jointly charged with murdering Siti Sando, 35, at No 40, Fifth Floor, Chrsyaa Astaria Apartment Block, Taman Kosas, Ampang here between 11am and 5pm on July 29 this year.

They are also charged with with murdering two-year-old Mohd Shukri at the same place and time.

The charge, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the death sentence upon conviction.

EO6 charged with having subversive documents

The six PSM members have claimed trial and posted bail of RM4,000 for each charge.

BUTTERWORTH: Six Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) leaders were charged in the Sessions Court here today with possession of 600 photocopies of Bersih pamphlets and subversive documents.

The six, also known as EO6, are Sungai Siput MP Dr D Michael Jeyakumar, 56, national deputy chairman M Sarasvathy, 58, central committee members Choo Chon Kai, 33, and M Sukumaran, 50, Youth chief R Saratbabu, 25, and Sungai Siput branch secretary A Letchumanan, 49.

The six who were arrested under the Emergency Ordinance (EO) were released last Friday after being detained for 28 days.

PSM’s EO6 to be charged tomorrow

They are expected to be charged over their alleged involvement in the Bersih 2.0 rally and for being involved in subversive activities.

PETALING JAYA: Recently released six Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) leaders are expected to face fresh charges at the Butterworth Sessions Court tomorrow.

While it is unclear what the charges would be, party leaders speculate that the case to be preferred against the six would be related to the July 9 Bersih 2.0 rally and for allegedly being involved in subversive activities.

“I believe that they would be charged for Bersih related charges – over their alleged association with an illegal association under the Societies Act and for leafleting Bersih agenda,” PSM secretary-general S Arutchelvan told FMT.

The six – Sungai Siput MP Dr D Michael Jeyakumar, PSM deputy chairman M Sarasvathy, central committee members Choo Chon Kai and , M Sukumaran, youth chief R Saratbabu and Sungai Siput branch secretary A Letchumanan – were released from the Emergency Ordinance last Friday after being detained for 28 days.

They were arrested in Kepala Batas on June 26 while embarking on a PSM campaign with 24 other PSM members. The authorities later accused them of waging war against the King.

They were then released and re-arrested on July 2 under the Emergency Ordinance which allowed the police to detain suspects for up to 60 days without trial.

It was later revealed that they were detained for allegedly being “movers” for the July 9 rally organised by Bersih 2.0.

The 24 PSM members who were arrested on June 26 are presently facing Bersih related charges in Butterworth Sessions Court.

Jeyakumar also confirmed with blogger Anil Netto that the six would be facing charges tomorrow.

“They want to charge us,” he was quoted by Netto as saying in his blog. “But we are not sure what the charge is going to be,” added the Sungai Siput MP.

PM: Up to cops, A-G to decide if Bersih organisers to be charged

Police and the Attorney-General's Chambers will decide whether to press charges against organisers of Saturday's illegal rallies, said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

He also dismissed claims of police brutality, adding police personnel had used minimum force when acting against the demonstrators.

“It is up to the police and AG to decide (to press charges). It is not up to me.

“Police had also used minimum force and there was no actual physical contact with the demonstrators,” the Prime Minister told a press conference on Sunday.

On reports that a person had died during the Saturday's protests, the Prime Minister said the person had died because of a pre-existing medical condition stressing it was not due to physical abuse.

The husband of Setiawangsa PKR wanita chief, who was believed to have participated in the Bersih rally, died of a heart attack on Saturday.

Acting city police chief SAC Amar Singh confirmed that Baharuddin Ahmad, who was in his 50s, died after complaining of chest pains at KLCC at about 4.30pm.

The Prime Minister also commended the police for their success in dealing with the demonstrators, adding police personnel had acted professionally.

“Even when the demonstrators were arrested, they were given food and a place to perform prayers,” he said.

Wife posts bail for man charged with raping daughter

KUALA LUMPUR - A wife insisted on posting bail for her husband in the Sessions court here, although he had been slapped with three counts of raping and molesting their 15-year-old daughter.

The husband, a 38-year-old army staff sergeant, had earlier pleaded not guilty to all three charges.

The prosecution, represented by deputy public prosecutor S. Malini Anne, had not offered bail as she was concerned that the accused might harass his daughter further.

However, the accused, from the dock, asked to be granted bail and said his wife was present to post bail for him.

Dressed in a long black robe and a bright pink headscarve, the wife said "Yes", when the judge repeatedly asked if she was sure of her decision, as the victim was her own daughter.

"As a wife, I know my husband is problematic," she told the court.

Judge Emelia Kaswati Mohamad Khalid, however, still did not appear satisfied with her answer and continued to grill her.

Emelia: Can you vouch that he will not harass your daughter? Can you ensure that they will live separately?

Wife: Yes.

Emelia: What if he harasses you, or if he has the key to your home? What if he forces you to open the door for him? Puasa (the fasting month), and Hari Raya are coming soon. I'm sure he'll want to see the family. Can you ensure they (father and daughter) won't meet?

Wife: I am fully responsible for my promise.

On the first charge, the man was accused of raping his daughter in a bedroom of their home in Desa Tun Hussein Onn, here, at about 3am on June 21, this year.

This amounts to an offence under Section 376 of the Penal Code, and if convicted, he can be jailed between eight and 30 years, and sentenced to at least 10 strokes of the rotan.

On the second charge, he was accused of molesting his daughter by inserting his finger into her private parts, at the same time and place. He also faces a third charge of molesting the girl by groping her private parts at about 3am, one night in the middle of last year.

Both charges are offences under Section 354 of the Penal Code, and the man can be jailed up to 10 years, or fined, or whipped, or face any two of such punishments, for each charge.

The court finally granted him bail at RM8,000 (S$3,259) with one surety for all three charges, with additional conditions that both father and daughter are separated and not allowed to meet at all.

The court also ordered him to report himself to the police station nearest his home once a month, and fixed Aug 2 for mention.

Bodies Identified as Wynetta Wright and Daughter Jaylin; DC Officer Charged in Woman's Death

HILLCREST HEIGHTS, Md. - A District of Columbia police officer was charged Friday in the death of a woman whose body was found along with that of her 1-year-old daughter in what authorities are calling a case of domestic violence.

Richmond Phillips was charged Friday with one count of first-degree murder and was being held without bond, said Gary Cunningham, a deputy Prince George's County police chief

Phillips was arrested Friday after police found the body of 20-year-old Wynetta Wright. She was found Thursday evening lying in the Oxon Run Stream Valley Park with what Cunningham said was obvious trauma on her body. Her daughter, Jaylin, was later found dead in a car seat in Wright's nearby car and may have died as a result of exposure to the heat, Cunningham said.

The two had been reported missing to the Baltimore County police department on Tuesday by Wright's mother.

Phillips, 39, of Temple Hills, Md., was arrested after he came to a police station and made statements, though Cunningham would not say what he said or whether he had confessed. It was not immediately clear whether he had an attorney, and the voicemail for his home phone number did not appear to be set up to receive messages.

"It's a tragic incident, obviously. We would hope that no one would have to endure this type of incident," Cunningham said.

Cunningham would not comment on the relationship between Phillips and Wright or discuss a motive. But Maryland court records show that the two were in a paternity dispute and a court hearing had been scheduled in Prince George's County for this past Tuesday. Wright's mother told reporters at the scene Thursday night that Phillips called her daughter the night before the hearing and asked to meet with her in Prince George's County. She said she became concerned after she did not hear again from her daughter.

Cunningham said he did not know if Phillips was the baby's father.

Phillips had worked for the D.C. police department since 2003 and had been assigned to the vice unit, which deals with street-level drug deals and other crimes, in the department's First District. The recently retired commander of that district, David Kamperin, said Friday that Phillips did not stand out and that there was nothing especially memorable about his performance.

"He didn't really rise to any level. He didn't seem to be a discipline issue. He was kind of like a status-quo employee in the vice unit," Kamperin said.

D.C. police spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump said that Phillips' "police powers have been revoked," but did not elaborate.

Autopsies were being performed Friday to determine the cause of the deaths.

"This is a horrific crime, and our deepest sympathies go out to the Wright family," D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said in a written statement. "As we have seen all too often, domestic violence has its impact on the most innocent victims."
