EO6 charged with having subversive documents

The six PSM members have claimed trial and posted bail of RM4,000 for each charge.

BUTTERWORTH: Six Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) leaders were charged in the Sessions Court here today with possession of 600 photocopies of Bersih pamphlets and subversive documents.

The six, also known as EO6, are Sungai Siput MP Dr D Michael Jeyakumar, 56, national deputy chairman M Sarasvathy, 58, central committee members Choo Chon Kai, 33, and M Sukumaran, 50, Youth chief R Saratbabu, 25, and Sungai Siput branch secretary A Letchumanan, 49.

The six who were arrested under the Emergency Ordinance (EO) were released last Friday after being detained for 28 days.

What to make of EO6′s link to Bersih?

In 1974, Malaysia and China established diplomatic ties. There is a famous picture of the second Prime Minister of Malaysia, Abdul Razak Hussein, shaking hands with Chairman Mao Zedong, the Communist revolutionary and strategist who established the People’s Republic of China in 1949.

Chairman Mao and the Communist Party of China are widely known to be the inspiration and source of support for the Communist Party of Malaya.

In 2009, Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak met with President Hu Jintao of the Communist Party of China on cooperation in trade and investment.

Every year, representatives of the Communist Party of Cuba are invited to and attend the Umno general assembly in Kuala Lumpur.

PSM’s EO6 to be charged tomorrow

They are expected to be charged over their alleged involvement in the Bersih 2.0 rally and for being involved in subversive activities.

PETALING JAYA: Recently released six Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) leaders are expected to face fresh charges at the Butterworth Sessions Court tomorrow.

While it is unclear what the charges would be, party leaders speculate that the case to be preferred against the six would be related to the July 9 Bersih 2.0 rally and for allegedly being involved in subversive activities.

“I believe that they would be charged for Bersih related charges – over their alleged association with an illegal association under the Societies Act and for leafleting Bersih agenda,” PSM secretary-general S Arutchelvan told FMT.

The six – Sungai Siput MP Dr D Michael Jeyakumar, PSM deputy chairman M Sarasvathy, central committee members Choo Chon Kai and , M Sukumaran, youth chief R Saratbabu and Sungai Siput branch secretary A Letchumanan – were released from the Emergency Ordinance last Friday after being detained for 28 days.

They were arrested in Kepala Batas on June 26 while embarking on a PSM campaign with 24 other PSM members. The authorities later accused them of waging war against the King.

They were then released and re-arrested on July 2 under the Emergency Ordinance which allowed the police to detain suspects for up to 60 days without trial.

It was later revealed that they were detained for allegedly being “movers” for the July 9 rally organised by Bersih 2.0.

The 24 PSM members who were arrested on June 26 are presently facing Bersih related charges in Butterworth Sessions Court.

Jeyakumar also confirmed with blogger Anil Netto that the six would be facing charges tomorrow.

“They want to charge us,” he was quoted by Netto as saying in his blog. “But we are not sure what the charge is going to be,” added the Sungai Siput MP.

Abusing the Emergency Ordinance 1969, six breadwinners of their families’ were thrown behind bars and defamed with having waged a war against the King, holding subversive beliefs and instigating the rakyat to attend a rally which the police had deemed illegal.

Yesterday, 28 days later, all six were set free, unconditionally. The question that begs an answer from Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak is: What happened in those 28 days’ that made him, his cousin the Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein and the Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar realise that the six are innocent and should rightfully be released?

Or was it a case of all three parties being well aware of the innocence of the six but proceeded to used them as scapegoats, hoping to teach Malaysians in general a lesson for taking to the streets on July 9, 2011 and challenging the ‘powers that be’?

90 groups demand release of EO6

A group of about 200 people gathered outside the federal police headquarters demanding that the six detained PSM leaders be released.

KUALA LUMPUR: “Free them now! Free the detainees! Abolish the Emergency Ordinance!,” they shouted.

A few hundred people gathered outside the Bukit Aman federal police headquarters here after Friday prayers today demanding the unconditional release of six Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) members who are being detained under the Emergency Ordinance (EO), which allows for detention without trial.

The group representing some 90 groups started gathering at 2.30pm and was led by PSM, which handed over a memorandum to the police.

“We feel that this constitutes political robbery. We are being blacklisted as human beings by the authorities,” PSM president Dr Nasir Hashim said.

Khairy breaks ranks, calls for release of EO6

The Umno Youth chief says he will convey his personal view to the prime minister.

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has broken ranks by calling for the release of six Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) detained under the Emergency Ordinance (EO).

Khairy, who called the arrests “misguided” and will convey his personal view to Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak, is the first leader from Barisan Nasional (BN) to call for the release of the EO6.
