2 firms, 2 Scorpenes and a path of death and corruption

Unknown | 9:42 PM | | | | | Best Blogger Tips

French naval ship builder DCNS seems to be a favourite of the Malaysian Defence Ministry and is lead consultant for Malaysia’s own upstart company to build naval vessels - Boustead Naval Shipyard Sdn Bhd.
Boustead Naval Shipyard (BNS) is a young start-up, which had its beginnings as PSC-Naval Dockyard (a sub-company of Penang Shipbuilding Corporation).
It was in 2005, after the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) brought to light gross management irregularities in PSC-Naval Dockyard's handling of the building and delivery of the New Generation Patrol Vessels (NGPV) for the Royal Malaysian Navy, that a major revamp was put into place to salvage the NGPV project.
Under the intervention of the Malaysian Government, a new management team was put in place and the project was revived. Boustead Holding Bhd, also a GLC, took up a 37% stake in PSC, becoming the single largest shareholder. As a division of PSC, PSC-ND therefore merged into Boustead Holding Bhd and renamed under Boustead Naval Shipyard Sdn Bhd.

Unknown | 1:39 AM | | | | Best Blogger Tips

JOHOR BARU - Her screams reached the ears of a neighbour. But by the time the man rushed to her house, her boyfriend had pummelled her to death.
The 57-year-old neighbour in a village here, who only wanted to be known as Ahmad, said he heard the victim crying and screaming for help at about 10.30am yesterday.
“I quickly ran to the house and saw her on the ground.
“The boyfriend was repeatedly hitting her with a bag,” he said, adding that although he was there, the man he knew as Edy refused to stop raining blows on the girl, known only as Ana.
“I put myself between the two but by the time I broke up the fight, Ana was lifeless and blood was streaming from her body,” said Ahmad, a taxi driver who owns the house.
Ahmad said he then shoved Edy into the house, locked the door and told the other neigh-bours, who had gathered there, to guard the house. He then called the police.
Seri Alam Deputy OCPD Supt Saifi Abd Hamid said the police were investigating the cause of the argument between the two, both aged 28, that led to the death of the woman.
“We believe the victim died of head injuries at the scene,” he said, adding that the suspect has been de-tained for questioning.

Altantuya: Bourdon's visit stirs up interest on how death-row duo faring

Unknown | 4:27 PM | | | | | | | | Best Blogger Tips

Prime Minister Najib Razak's deportation of lawyer William Bourdon has indeed strirred all sorts of speculation. Among the hottest is whether two of his former bodyguards, Azilah Hadri and Sirul Umar, sentenced to hang for the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu, a translator who was allegedly part of the Scorpene submarines negotiations, were really in jail or had already been freed!
Like it or not, many Malaysians see Najib's decision to deport Bourdon as an abuse of power to stop the skeletons in his closet from being aired and exposed to the wolrd at large.
Many of the people Malaysia Chronicle interviewed also said that a person is innocent until proven guilty, and since Najib is enjoying this privilege, he should extend the same to Bourdon, who was here on legitimate and serious business,

Death for man who raped daughter

Unknown | 4:46 AM | | | | Best Blogger Tips

A Pakistani court has awarded the death sentence to a man for raping his 15-year-old daughter.
Additional sessions judge Tahir Khan Niazi handed down the capital punishment after the charge against Khalid Amin was proved.
Khan's ex-wife Parveen Bibi filed a first information report at Kahna police station in Lahore, accusing her former husband of raping their daughter for a month in 2009.
Amin divorced Parveen in 2008 and the couple's two daughters and four sons were living with the father.
The girl testified in court that her father raped her for at least a month.
"My father threatened he would kill my brothers if I disclosed his act to anyone," the girl told the judge.
The girl told her cousin about the assault, and the cousin later informed Parveen.
Perveen quizzed her daughter, who confirmed that she was raped by her father.
A few persons tried to assault Amin while he was taken out of the court but policemen protected him.
The persons called him a "savage" and demanded that he should be hanged at a public spot to make an example of him.

Boy, 13, ‘Kept in Dog Cage and Beaten to Death by Parents’

Unknown | 12:45 PM | | | | | | | Best Blogger Tips

A boy of 13 who died in a dog cage after years of alleged abuse by his parents wrote letters from the squalid prison about how he wanted his life to end.

Christian Choate wrote: ‘I want to die’ on the paper given to him by his stepmother to scribble down how he felt.
In the handwritten notes, he said he simply wanted to be liked by his family in Gary, Indiana – even if they were ‘abusing’ him.
The disturbing letters emerged as child protection authorities admitted to a catalogue of errors in the years before Christian died.
His father was accused of attacking him the year before he took sole custody of the teenager. After that, the alleged abuse only got worse.
Christian’s body was recovered last month from a shallow grave in a trailer park near Gary, Indiana where he once lived with his family.
It is thought he could have been there for two years after his father Riley Choate moved the family away and warned them not to tell anyone what had happened.
He and Christian’s stepmother Kimberly Kubina now face a string of charges including murder, neglect and obstruction of justice.
They have pleaded not guilty and are awaiting trial.
The letters, released by the Indiana Department of Child Services, show the teenager spent most of his last year in a three-foot high dog cage.
Christian writes how he had to steal food when he was hungry because his family allegedly would not feed him.
He would only be let out to clean the house and was almost never allowed outside.
His sole means of entertainment appears to have been a pencil and pieces of paper given to him by his stepmother.
‘Christian wrote of why nobody liked him and how he just wanted to be liked by his family,’ DCS records state, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
‘Christian stated that he wanted to die because nobody liked the way he ‘acted.’
The records continue: ‘Christian’s writings detail a very sad, depressed child who often wondered when someone, anyone, was going to come check on him and give him food or liquid. Christian often stated he was hungry or thirsty.’
‘Christian’s writings detail a very sad, depressed child who often wondered when someone, anyone, was going to come check on him and give him food or liquid’
Some of Christian’s writings were random but the records show that Kubina would give him ‘homework’ assignments with disturbing titles.
They included ‘why do you still want to see your mom?, ‘why can’t you let the past go?’ and  ‘what does it mean to be part of a family?’
Christian died in early 2009 of blunt force trauma injuries and a skull fracture.
Police claim his father buried him in a shallow grave, covered it with concrete and moved away.
Newly released DCS records show that Choate was a known abuser who was nonetheless allowed to keep custody of his son.
In August 2004 he was accused of abusing Christian, but no proof was found so the boy remained in his home.
The same month, however, he was found to have physically abused his wife’s nieces while living with them and was cited by the DCS for ‘inappropriate discipline’.
In the years before Christian’s death, records show there were eight instances of alleged abuse in houses where his family had lived.
DCS spokesman Ann Houseworth said: ‘With regard to this case, DCS did everything it legally could to ensure the well-being of these children at the time of our interactions with the family’.’
