KUALA LUMPUR: Social activist Robert Phang wants all senior politicians and government servants in the country to heed the Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak’s instruction to voluntarily declare their assets to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Phang, who is the founder-cum chairman of Social Care Foundation, said that among those who should especially take note are Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz and the deputy minister VK Liew.

We refer to the report in the NST on 2nd February 2011 citing 'sources' that former NFC consultant Shamsubaharin Ismail had said in his statement to MACC that NFC Chairman Dato Seri Salleh 'had at no time instructed him to bribe police' and that this contradicted Shamsubaharin's subsequent police report alleging bribery.

This is a completely false allegation intended to tarnish Shamsubaharin's reputation and to protect those involved in the NFC scandal. We are in possession of Shamsubaharin's statement to the MACC and his police report dated 27 January 2011. We can confirm that Shamsubaharin did not say in his MACC statement that Dato Seri Salleh ' had at no time instructed him to bribe police.'

Cow condo' scandal: Police deny knowledge of report from MACC

Tan Sri Ismail Omar today deflected questions on the National Feedlot Centre (NFC) “cattle condo” scandal, saying he has yet to receive any report from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

“So far, I’ve not received anything yet,” he said when pushed for an answer by a group of reporters who accosted him as he was leaving the Selangor police contingent’s Deepavali celebration here this afternoon.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) initially appeared surprised when asked to comment and pointed out that the matter was a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) case.

Evidence in ‘MACC robbers’ case missing

One month after three senior Malaysian Anti-Corruption Comission officers were charged with a robbery involving close to RM1 million in KLIA, police found that evidence has gone missing.

Police have lost evidence related to the high-profile robbery case where three Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers have been charged.

An official police statement released late last night confirmed that RM11,700 and a wallet have gone missing from Menara 2 of the Selangor police headquarters in Shah Alam. It was learnt that the wallet also contained an MACC identification card and a credit card.

PAS central committee member Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the inaction on the part of the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) over recent revelations of mismanagement of government money by the embattled National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) had only confirmed its double standards.

It is embarrassing to think that the Malaysian counterpart to these foreign corruption-busting agencies is slow and inattentive to act on its own homeground.

Although outfitted with a new mandate in 2008, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has little fruit to show although its annual allocation from the national budget has been steadily increased over the years. With an increasing budget, why is it that the MACC has such poor showing when it comes to solving corruption cases and bringing the perpetrators to justice?

PKR leader Badrul Hisham Shahrin has dropped a bombshell in his latest blog posting. MACC officers went to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and interviewed one A Krishnan, whose name had appeared on a screenshot of the Customs database indicating First Lady Rosmah Mansor's alleged purchase of a RM24.4 million diamond ring.

However, it is not clear why the MACC interviewed the Operations Manager, whether to find out who blew the whistle on the transaction or to investigate if the ring had indeed been ordered by Rosmah and why was tax not paid on it.
