On a roll! The incredible tsunami of 'wave' clouds that had all eyes on the skies

Unknown | 11:38 PM | | | | | Best Blogger Tips

All eyes were trained on the sky over Alabama last week as eerie wave clouds rolled over the state.

The surreal event was captured on camera phones last Friday afternoon in Birmingham and is called a Kelvin–Helmholtz instability.

It normally occurs in regions with vast plains where winds quickly change speed creating turbulence.  A fast-moving, lighter density cloud slides on top of a slower, thicker layer, dragging out the surface and creating the wave effect.

Najib's 28-year-old son stirs up a tsunami in the stock market

Unknown | 3:58 AM | | | | | | Best Blogger Tips

Shares in once-ailing timber firm, Harvest Court Industries Bhd, rose to a nine-year high Mohd Nazifuddin Najib, the 28-year-old son of Prime Minister Najib Razak, emerged as a shareholder in the company.

The stock jumped 30.5 sen to RM1.18 on Tuesday, while the warrants rose by 30 sen a piece to close at RM1.05. The PN17 status slapped on Harvest since December 2009 was finally lifted the end of October, 2011.
"Market thrives on speculation and it is no harm for retailers to take a punt or two but be very careful, especially when it comes to PN17 or ailing firms revived solely by political interest," a research director at a large brokerage told Malaysia Chronicle.
"Scomi shares had also jumped miraculously when Abdullah Badawi was taking over from Mahathir Mohamad. But there are no such things as guaranteed profits. Cronies and the families of the political leaders should actually refrain from using their status to drive up speculative interest in their stock. This is not bad practice."

Silence as Japan marks six months after tsunami

Unknown | 2:56 AM | | | | Best Blogger Tips

While millions paused to commemorate the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the United States, residents in Japan on Sunday paused for a moment of silence to reflect on the six-month anniversary of the tsunami that triggered a nuclear disaster.

Japan fell silent in prayer on Sunday, six months after an earthquake and tsunami left 20,000 dead or missing and sparked a nuclear crisis on its Pacific coast.

At 2:46 pm the eerie wail of warning sirens rang out, marking exactly six months since the the 9.0-magnitude quake struck offshore, unleashing towering waves which swallowed ships, sea walls, vehicles and whole communities.
