NEW DELHI - After spending her evening watching “Life of Pi” in a New Delhi mall, the 23-year-old student and her male companion were looking for a quick lift home when a bus with tinted windows pulled over.

A-G sends back NFCorp investigation papers to police

KUALA LUMPUR, March 2 — Investigation papers on the National Feedlot Corporation (NFCorp) have been sent back to the police, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Khalid Abu Bakar said today.

He was quoted by The Star Online as saying that the Attorney-General wanted more investigations to be conducted on the case but did not specify why the papers were sent back to the police.

CCID director Datuk Syed Ismail Syed Azizan recently confirmed that the police had recommended that the Attorney-General’s Chambers charge NFCorp directors with criminal breach of trust.

No need for NFC to overreact, says police

KUALA LUMPUR- There is no need for the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) to overreact to the preliminary proposal to charge its chairman for criminal breach of trust (CBT) as it was just a suggestion to the Attorney-General (AG), said Bukit Aman commercial crimes investigation department director Datuk Syed Ismail Syed Azizan.

He said that it was up to the AG to decide on the next course of action.

“If they’re not satisfied, it’s up to them. We’ll carry on with our duty, if not, why else did we investigate?,” he told Bernama when contacted here Monday.

Police say PKR agreed to rally conditions

City police today insisted PKR had agreed to the 10 conditions set out for its rally tomorrow in support of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, when he learns the verdict of his two-year long sodomy trial.

Head of Kuala Lumpur police Datuk Mohamad Salleh told reporters today PKR deputy president Azmin Ali was not being truthful when he said the conditions were not agreed to during their meeting on Friday.

“Azmin Ali’s denial is untrue. The conditions were based on our agreement. There were no changes,” he said, adding that PKR Youth chief Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin had signed an agreement listing down the conditions.

Revenge or not, police haul up Surendran for "attempted murder" accusation

In a move that smacks of intimidation and revengefulness, police hauled up PKR vice president N Surendran for rebuking them over a brutal attack that badly injured several politicians including Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim, his bodyguard and Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad.

Surendran, who was also part of the group but escaped injury, had decsribed the police aggression as "attempted murder", a term that apparently upset the police and prompted them to grill him for nearly an hour at the Jalan Travers station this afternoon.

"“I stand by that statement irrespective how how many investigations they decide to institute against me," Surendran told reporters on Wednesday.

“I have been informed that the police lodged a report against me in relation to an article in The Malaysian Insider that said what happened at the KL Sentral underpass on July 9 is attempted murder. What I said earlier was that the circumstances in which the tear gas was fired into the underpass can cause great danger for those in the underpass and I asked for the matter to be categorised as attempted murder."

Questions surround Baharudin's death despite police denial

KUALA LUMPUR - The family of the late Baharudin Ahmad, one of the protesters at Bersih's massive rally on Saturday whose funeral was attended by Pakatan Rakyat top leaders yesterday, has disputed claims by police that he had died of heart problems.

Earlier reports said Baharudin, 56, had suffered difficulty in breathing after the police charged tear towards him to disperse crowd of people near KLCC. He then collapsed, but was denied immediate care due to ambulance being prevented from arrival.

Police Officer Gropes Female Motorist

A police officer stuffed his hand down the trousers of a female motorist who he had stopped for suspected drunk driving and said he’d only let her go if she showed him her breasts, a court heard.

The alleged victim claims San Diego police officer Anthony Arevalos put her through a two-hour ordeal during which he asked if her breasts were real and whether she had participated in any wet T-shirt competitions.

Arevalos faces 18 felony counts, including sexual battery, assault and battery by an officer, asking for a bribe and false imprisonment.

The woman was testifying at a preliminary hearing for Arevalos, 40, who was fired from the San Diego Police Department in April after allegedly stopping a number of female motorists and demanding sexual favors in return for letting them go.

She told the court she had been driving along Fourth Avenue near Island Avenue in San Diego when Officer Arevalos signaled for her to stop.

She said: ‘He thought I was sitting at the stop sign too long.’

She claimed the officer, who served 18 years, repeatedly asked her to get out of the car and take a breath-test but that she had declined to do either.

Later he said he would let her go if she showed him her breasts.

The woman, one of five alleged victims due to testify at the hearing, said she eventually lifted her top and ‘flashed’ officer Arevalos.

She explained how she had felt ‘upset’ as Arevalos stood in the open doorway of her Honda Civic and asked questions about her body.

She claimed he brushed his hand against one of her breasts as he held the breath machine close.

She told the court: ‘He said, ‘Can you feel that? Does it feel good?’’

To which she replied: ‘Actually, no. It kind of hurts,’ at which point he backed off.

He then put his hand down her low-rise jeans, touching her bare skin.

Deputy District Attorney Sherry Thompson has filed four additional charges for similar conduct involving three more women.

Arevalos, who has pleaded not guilty, faces up to 20 years in prison.

Some of the women admitted that they had been drinking before they were stopped.

One alleged victim, a nursing student, said she had offered Arevalos cash to let her go and that he had declined and had asked her what else she could offer that was ‘out of the books’.
