SHAH ALAM: Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of 19-year-old Nurul Awathif Mohd Shakir, whose body was found burned and dumped by the roadside near a sewage pond in Ampang.

Three arrested over murder of Japanese trader

KUALA LUMPUR: Three foreigners have been picked up by the police in connection with the murder of a Japanese businessman in a hotel room in Jalan Selaman near here.

They were detained at a house in Taman Kosas here early yesterday morning.

According to sources, the suspects were arrested following a tip-off.

Police were investigating whether the suspects had valid travel documents. Ampang OCPD Asst Comm Amiruddin confirmed the arrests and said all three were remanded for seven days.

The hotel's housekeeping staff made the shocking discovery on Monday afternoon when they found the victim tied to a friend, a tourist, who had minor injuries.

The tourist was sent to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for a check-up.

It is believed that both the tourists were beaten before being robbed in the hotel room.

Police have recorded the statement of the victim's friend.

It was learnt that both men were jewellers who had come to the country on a business trip on Aug 20.

Murder of Vet Dept deputy director solved, four arrested

IPOH - The murder of Perak Veterinary Services Department deputydirector Dr Rohani Kasim has been solved with the arrests of four suspects, including an army personnel and a postman.

Perak deputy police chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Zakaria Yusof said the last suspect, 22, was picked up at 10.25pm in Slim River on Thursday.

A newlywed who tried to hire a hitman to kill her husband was branded ‘pure evil’ by a judge who jailed her for 20 years.

Former escort girl Dalia Dippolito wiped away tears as she was given the long sentence by a court in Florida.

The 28-year-old had tried to hire a hitman to kill her husband of just six months in an attempt to get her hands on their home.

Her attempts to find a killer backfired when an undercover detective posed as a potential assassin and she was caught out in an elaborate sting operation.

Police in Boynton Beach, Florida, staged a fake CSi scene to fool Dippolito into thinking the murder of her husband Michael had been carried out.

She was captured on TV cameras weeping after being told her husband had been murdered as she returned from a morning job.

She later looked on dumbstruck after her husband was led into a police station and her murder-for-hire plot was exposed.

Jailing Dippolito for 20 years, Circuit Judge Jeffrey Colbath called her plot ‘pure evil’, and said she was taking advantage of her husband Michael, describing him as a ‘a guy that was gullible.’

The judge said Dippolito had not shown any remorse and called her a ‘puppet master’ who took advantage of her husband.

Dippolito’s family had pleaded for mercy with her 16-year-old sister calling her ‘my role model’.

Dippolito’s lawyers had tried to claim she thought she was taking part in a new reality show and talking to the hitman was part of a stunt.

But a jury rejected her story after listening to secret recordings of Dippolito trying to secure the services of a hitman in 2009.

On the tape she can be heard saying: ‘No one is going to be able to point a finger at me.’

When told she could not back out of the plan, Dippolito said: ‘I’m positive, like 5,000 per cent sure.’

Saudi beheads Indonesian woman convicted of murder

JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia - An Indonesian woman was beheaded by the sword on Saturday after being convicted of murdering a Saudi woman, the interior ministry said.

The woman named Roiaiti Beth Sabotti Sarona, according to a transliteration from Arabic, was found guilty of killing Saudi Khairiya bint Hamid Mijlid by striking her repeatedly on the head with a meat chopper and stabbing her in the neck, the ministry said in a statement carried by the official SPA news agency.

The ministry did not elaborate on the motives of the crime, nor it did disclose the relation between the two women. But Indonesian officials say that around 70 percent of the 1.2 million Indonesians working in Saudi Arabia are domestic staff.

The beheading in the western province of Mecca brings the number of executions in the ultra-conservative kingdom this year to 28, according to an AFP tally based on official and human rights group reports.

London-based watchdog Amnesty International called on Saudi Arabia last week to stop applying the death penalty, saying there had been a significant rise in the number of executions carried out over the past six weeks.

It said at least 27 people have been executed in Saudi Arabia in 2011, "the same as the total number of people executed in the whole of 2010. Fifteen people were executed in May alone."

In 2009, the number of executions reached 67, compared to 102 in 2008.

Rape, murder, apostasy, armed robbery and drug trafficking are all punishable by death under Saudi Arabia's strict interpretation of Islamic sharia law.
