PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian government paid an array of American mainstream publications to mostly malign opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim and to a lesser extend  print its propaganda.

Disclosing details of payments made to conservative American opinion writers, a political news website BuzzFeed Politics said much of these reports appeared in publications such as the  Huffington Post,  San Francisco Examiner, Washington Times, National Review and RedState.

The website reported that details of these payments emerged in a filing earlier this week to the US Department of Justice.

Thai floods to last four to six weeks more: Govt

BANGKOK - Thailand’s worst floods in decades are expected to last another four to six weeks as a mass of water drains from the north into the sea, the government warned on Saturday.

Mahfuz, Salahuddin sue IGP, govt over Bersih arrests

PAS vice presidents Mahfuz Omar and Salahuddin Ayub have decided to sue the Inspector-General of Police, the Malaysian government and two other senior cops for unlawful arrest during the Bersih 2.0 rally on July 9.

Mahfuz, 54, and Salahuddin Ayub, 50, accused the cops of mala fide in separate suits filed by their lawyer Zulhazmi Shariff at the Kuala Lumpur High court on Monday. Both  leaders claimed general compensation, exemplary damages, costs and any relief deemed fit by the court.

Jeyakumar goes on hunger strike, slams police and govt inaction

Sungai Siput MP Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj will begin a hunger strike on Thursday until he and five others detained under the Emergency Ordinance are released or are brought to court to be charged.

‘Govt will delay court process for EO six’

Defence lawyer thinks the Attorney-General will ask for postponement of habeas corpus hearing.

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will try to prolong the detention of six Parti Socialis Malaysia (PSM) members by causing delays in the court process, according to defence lawyer Edmund Bon.

He suspects that the Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail will seek a postponement when the High Court sits this Friday to hear habeas corpus applications from the six – Sungai Siput MP Dr D Michael Jeyakumar, PSM deputy president M Sarasvathy, central committee members Choo Chon Kai and M Sugumaran, Youth chief R Saratbabu and Sungai Siput branch secretary A Letchumanan.
