Police in Singapore have warned of a rise in online scam artists who use attractive women to 'friend' victims on social sites, then seduce them into cybersex on webcams to blackmail them.

The women, who prowl for men on sites such as Facebook charm the men into undressing or performing sex acts, then threaten to post images or videos of them online if they do not pay up.

According to the police, more than 50 such cases were reported in 2012, up from 11 the previous year.

Blocks of flats located in Stulang, Johor Baru has become a red-light district of sorts, no thanks to a large group of young women who arrived from China to become sex workers here.

Guang Ming Daily reported that the units in 26 middle-and low-cost flats were now occupied by hundreds of young women from China, who operate one-woman brothels - a method of prostitution made famous in Hong Kong - in the units.

Each would rent a unit and operate their 'business' there, claimed residents nearby who wished to remain anonymous.

Potential customers from all parts of Malaysia and even Singapore have been flocking to the area, seeking the women's services.

Sisters: We don’t mind sleeping with men for money

LURED by the prospects of easy money, three sisters have no qualms living life as “call girls”.

The siblings told Metro Ahad how they enjoyed being in the company of rich men who were willing to fork out at least RM300 to satisfy their desires.

Aiza (not her real name) said she started her wild lifestyle at the age of 17 when she hooked up with an 18-year-old son of a wealthy businessman.

“We would meet up every weekend and he would give me RM200 each time. That amount of money was a lot for a teenager like me,” said Aiza, now 26.

She also said she heard about a sex video of someone resembling herself which had leaked out in public. However, she said she had no idea about its source as she had “slept with countless number of strangers”.

Local men going for Thai mistresses?

SINGAPORE - According to a senior lawyer, 20% of local adultery cases now involve Thai women.

Divorce lawyer Chen Xiu Jin told Lianhe Wanbao about this new trend, and added that the men involved are usually professionals below the age of 40. They include bankers, accountants, engineers, lawyers and even entrepreneurs who make upwards of $50,000 a month.

Chen notes that men in the past tended to have affairs with local or Chinese national women. In comparison, Thai women often have less demands on men and are now popular among white-collar professionals.

Do Women Prefer Men With Flashy Cars?

You've probably heard the popular maxim explaining men's obsession with cars -- how they view their automobile as an extension of their, erm, manhood. Freudian babble? Perhaps, but are flashy wheels really a sex symbol? Are women more attracted to a man who, say, drives a Porsche than a guy with a Honda Civic?

The answer is yes, but the appeal won't necessarily last, says a new study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.

The study found that women view men who flaunt expensive sports cars more desirable as a date -- but not necessarily as marriage material. The women in the study also took the fancy wheels to mean the man was looking for no-strings-attached sex.

The research by Rice University, the University of Texas-San Antonio and the University of Minnesota, titled "Peacocks, Porsches and Thorstein Veblen: Conspicuous Consumption as a Sexual Signaling System", was conducted with 1,000 men and women on their attitudes toward 'flashy' spending and sexual attraction.

And much like how peacocks flaunt their brilliant feathers to attract mates, some men use 'flashy' possessions to charm potential dates, the researchers found. "They're the ones driving the bright colored sports car," says co-author Vladas Griskevicius, assistant professor of marketing at the University of Minnesota.

So a shiny Porsche is a display of wealth, and the guy behind the wheel is really sending the evolutionary message that he's able to provide. But interestingly, women don't necessarily see him as a good husband material. In fact, when women choose a long-term partner, a guy who owns a fancy sports car holds no advantage relative to another man owning an economy car.

Why? It's believed that women who are looking for long-term commitments may be turned off by a guy's lavish spending on himself, preferring the male to invest in the family and children instead.

"People may feel that owning flashy things makes them more attractive as a relationship partner, but in truth, many men might be sending women the wrong message," says co-author Daniel Beal, assistant professor of psychology at Rice.

Easier to make money from men, so youth changes sex

A youth underwent a sex change operation as he believed it would be easier to make money from men.

Zhang Hailong, a Secondary student then, ran away from home in 2007 after an argument with his parents.

He worked at a bar in Suzhou, China, but was unhappy with the low income.

He complained to a friend who suggested that he "transform" himself into a woman as the GROs at the bar made at least 500 yuan (RM236) a day.

Zhang underwent a sex change operation and changed his name to Juan Juan. He returned to work at the bar in a deal with its owner, who bore the surgery cost.

But Zhang could never stand the weird looks from the customers and wanted to work at a place where nobody knew his original identity.

Last year, he followed his netpal Wang Laiqing, 27, to work in Nanjing but the income could hardly cover the expenses of two people.

Then Wang wanted Zhang to stage a show to trick and rob businessman Zhao Bin, who had invited the transsexual for sex.

As the two were at the hotel room, Wang – who acted as Zhang's husband - stormed in and assaulted the innocent Zhao Bin while the transsexual pretended to be crying.

Then, Wang demanded a "settlement fee" from Zhao Bin before snatching away his necklace worth over 6,000 yuan (RM2,835) and wallet containing 500 yuan (RM236).

Zhao Bin asked his landlord to send 3,000 yuan (RM1,418) to Wang at Yanchangqiao Square.

But 30 minutes later, Zhang telephoned Zhao Bin, asking him to pay another 1,000 (RM473) to redeem his wallet.

Zhao Bin lodged a report and the police arrested Zhang but Wang escaped.

Zhang, now 21, was sentenced to four years jail and fined 3,000 yuan (RM1,418) for robbery.

Daring robbery in Malaysia: Gate no deterrent as men cut off woman's handbag

You may be behind your house gates, but that does not mean you are safe. STOMPer Selly sent in a video clip of a woman robbed by motorcyclists who forced open her house gates.

Selly, who found the video online, said:

"We may feel safe and secure once we are near our houses, or even inside our own compound.

"However, as this video shows, even a robbery can take place behind your own house gates.

"Maybe her gate is spoilt -- also goes to show that we shouldn't be too dependent on technology to keep us safe and secure as they can malfunction sometimes!

"Let us learn from her mistake and be aware of all the safety precautions even if we are behind our house gates."

"Guys I know this housing area, it looks like Bandar Utama or Sunway Damansara in Malaysia.

"The autogate in this housing area has this problem. When it closes, it doesn't trigger the lock for the gate. You need to go to the gate and manually use your strength to slam it shut.

"I know because I have been there. There is a 30% chance that the gate will lock. Sometimes it won't."

"The thief has a thousand and one ways to break in and steal stuff.

"An autogate wasn't built for safety in the first place, it's just an accessory to automatically open your gate. There is nothing safe in this world."
