Women Flees Home after Finding Unexpected Visitor – Alligator in the House

House guests are always a bit of a pain, especially if  they are uninvited – and even more so if there’s not a lot you can do to convince them to leave.

So spare a thought for Alexis Dunbar, who returned to her Palmetto home in Manatee County, Florida, to find a prehistoric killer making himself comfortable in her guest bedroom. The uninvited guest was a six-foot alligator, and – despite his smile in the photos – he wasn’t in the best of moods.  Miss Dunbar recalled the hair-raising incident, which began after she returned home on Saturday. 

She told Bay News 9′s Robert Hahn:  ‘I look to the right and there’s an alligator in my guest bedroom.’ Miss Dunbar was not going to hang around, so immediately left the house. But she suddenly remembered her beloved pet cats.

She said: ‘My cats are like my daughters. So I thought my cat was eaten. There was blood everywhere.’ It turns out that the blood came from the gator itself, having either been injured outside or as he tried to squeeze himself through the cat flap of Miss Dunbar’s door. Both of her cats later emerged from their hiding places, shaken but not eaten. 

 Experts who came to catch the unwanted intruder believe the alligator crawled up the bank of the pond behind the house, under a chain-link fence, across the yard, through a screen on the porch, and then through the cat flap. Despite the gater being lassoed and removed from the house, 

Miss Dunbar said she was still a little shy when it came to moving about the house. She said: ‘Alligators get into pools or something, but never in a house. I’m going to be scared to sleep here tonight. I’m definitely going to go look under my bed again before I go back inside.’

Anthony Weiner’s Pension, Benefits Could Exceed $1 Million

As politicians in New York figure out what’s next for the U.S. House seat vacated by Anthony Weiner, there are some financial odds and ends to consider about the disgraced Democrat.

Weiner, first elected in 1998, could draw on pension and benefits worth more than $1 million in his lifetime, according to calculations by the National Taxpayers Union. Details were reported today by Roll Call, National Journal and others.

Weiner resigned Thursday, after a scandal over sexually explicit contact he had with women on Twitter and Facebook.

Weiner, now 46 years old, could receive $46,224 annually if he waits until age 62 to draw his pension. If he opts to receive it early, starting at age 56, he would receive $35,357 annually.

Also, members of Congress participate in what is called the Thrift Savings Plan, sort of like a 401(k). NTU estimates Weiner has a balance of $216,011 in that savings plan, if he had been investing aggressively in it.

There’s also the matter of Weiner’s unused campaign funds. Weiner had more than $312,000 in the bank as of January, according to records kept by the non-partisan Center for Responsive Politics.

By law, about the only thing Weiner can’t do with that money is convert it to personal use. Departed lawmakers typically give unused campaign funds to charity, donate it to party committees or candidates, or if he decided to run again — a big if, at this point — he could also tap the account for another congressional race.

The New York Times reports that Weiner will retain control of the funds in the campaign account for the mayor’s race — a contest in which he was widely viewed as a strong contender in 2013. Weiner raised more than $4.8 million to run, according to records kept by the city’s Campaign Finance Board.

Much of Weiner’s money for the mayor’s race came from the campaign account he started in 2009, when he thought about challenging current mayor Michael Bloomberg.

2 held for parading woman naked

PAKISTAN - Police in Haripur said they have arrested two men for stripping a woman naked and parading her in a village. One of the offenders had accused the woman's son of having illicit relations with his wife, the police said, reported BBC on Tuesday.

Police said villagers where the incident took place did not try to stop it because the offenders were armed. Haripur district police chief Mohammad Ali Gandapur told the BBC that a resident of Nilor Bala village had complained to village elders that two men had had illicit relations with his wife.

According to the police, a village council advised the complainant to divorce his wife. Instead, he and four armed men stormed the house belonging to the mother of one of the men alleged to have slept with his wife in order to kill her son.

Because the son was not there, the men dragged the mother out, stripped her and made her walk through the village, the police said. They have now registered a case against seven people, but only two have been arrested so far.

They said they were looking for other offenders.

In 2002, Mukhtaran Mai was gang-raped by members of a tribe in the Meerwala village in Muzaffargarh after her brother was accused of developing relations with a local woman.

AFP adds: The incident happened after neighbour Mohammad Salman grew suspicious that the woman's sons slept with his wife in Neelor Bala village, 100 kilometres north of Islamabad, said police official Akhtar Nawaz.

Enraged Salman and his brothers went to confront the suspects, who were identified only as Rashid and Kazim, but they had fled, leaving behind their mother, Nawaz said.

"No one has come to lodge a formal complaint. Police registered a case themselves after receiving reports from local residents," he told AFP.

An investigation is underway and two people have been taken into custody for questioning, he said. Police investigation officer Shabbir Hussain Shah said the statement of the woman, who is aged about 50, had been recorded.

Salman, who works in Lahore, believed that one of the brothers had got his wife pregnant while he was away from home, Shah said.

Heads finally rolled over Karachi youth's killing

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Army has removed Director General Rangers Major General Ijaz Chaudhry while federal government posted out Inspector General Police of Sindh Fayyaz Leghari in compliance with the directive of the Supreme Court.

In compliance with the apex court orders, Major General Ijaz Chaudhary, DG Pakistan Rangers (Sindh), has been posted out, said ISPR spokesman.

The spokesman said the DG Rangers has been removed on the orders of the Supreme Court in the case of killing a youth involving Rangers in Karachi, and will be transferred to another department.

Meanwhile, the IGP Sindh has also been served a notice and asked to report to the Establishment Division till further orders.

The Supreme Court on Friday demanded that the government remove within three days Major General Ijaz Chaudhry, head of the paramilitary force, and Sindh police chief Fayyaz Leghari, over the killing.

Police have arrested six Rangers personnel after they shot dead Sarfaraz Shah, an unarmed youth, in a public park in Karachi. They will be tried in an anti-terrorism court. The accused Rangers men were remanded into police custody for two days on Monday along with a civilian named Afsar Khan.

The names of the accused Rangers are: Shahid Zafar, Mohammad Afzal, Bahadur Rehman, Manthar Ali, Liaquat Ali and Mohammad Tariq.

Afsar Khan was seen dragging the victim over to the paramilitary personnel in television footage and accusing him of robbery.

Widely aired footage of the killing showed a clean-shaven man wearing black trousers and a navy shirt pleading for his life as a soldier cocked his rifle at his neck, then shot him twice in the hand and thigh.

As his blood poured onto the ground, the man begged for help from soldiers - who appeared to do nothing but watch - until he fell unconscious.

The incident mirrored the killings last month in Balochistan of five unarmed Chechens, one of them a pregnant woman.
