Anwar is PM material, says Umno veteran

Unknown | 4:34 PM | | | | Best Blogger Tips

Blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin can dismiss Anwar Ibrahim's importance, but a former Cabinet Minister believes "Anwar will remain relevant for a long time.”
Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim has landed himself an unexpected exponent in the wake of several hard-hitting interviews by self-exiled blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin.
In the interviews Raja Petra had branded Anwar “unfit” to be the next Prime Minister, alluded that Anwar was guilty of the sodomy charge and expressed certainty that Anwar was the man featured in the sex video.
But the waves created by his verbal attacks could very well change direction now that a former Umno Cabinet Minister’s endorsement of Anwar’s suitability as Malaysia’s leader.

Dr M says Umno weak and damaged

Tun Dr Mahathir says Umno is a pale shadow of its former glory

Umno has not made any effective improvements since Election 2008 general and is unable to garner support from Malays, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed has said ahead of the party’s general assembly at the end of the month.

The party’s longest-serving president was quoted by its newspaper Utusan Malaysia today saying Umno currently lacked good, credible leaders and that it was a pale shadow of its former glory.
“Umno became badly damaged when Tun Abdullah Badawi took over. Because he prioritised his family and there were so many corruption allegations. And everyone knew about his son-in-law’s involvement,” he said, referring to Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

Umno bloggers used pictures of UK chess champion to malign Guan Eng

Unknown | 2:21 PM | | | | | | Best Blogger Tips

Despite a heated defense by Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, who insists there is basis for the Umno bloggers' accusations that Lim Guan Eng's 16-year-old is a sex maniac, DAP leaders have provided proof of the Umno lies.

Sex, Sex, Sex, is this all Umno knows; Blackmail ahead of Sarbaini verdict?

Unknown | 5:14 PM | | | | | Best Blogger Tips

It looks like the Pakatan Rakyat opposition may be right. Umno is really starting to lose it. Its traditional Malay electorate is beginning to see the party as it is and no longer as it was.

In the past due to its awesome power, Malays flocked to join the party, hoping to tap into its huge gravy train. Spurred by the racial politicking of the top Umno leadership, many ordinary Malays stayed on in the party, even though they knew they were unlikely to make it to the higher ranks. Total membership is said to number 3 million these days, the largest political grouping in the country.
But that may have been the peak for the Malay nationalist party. Not only have Malays become more emancipated by education, many are beginning to feel disgust in place of the trust they once held.

Hasan Ali will stay in PAS, don't listen to Umno

Unknown | 2:12 AM | | | | | Best Blogger Tips

Following Selangor exco member Hasan Ali's denial that he would join Umno, Selangor PAS commissioner Dr Abd Rani Osman has expressed faith in his comrade, dismissing the rumour as a gimmick by the rival party.
“Based on the commitment to the party's struggle demonstrated (by Hasan) so far, it (joining Umno) will not become a reality.
“I think it is a tune played by a certain party, and we don't have to dance to it,” he said in a text message to Malaysiakini last night.

Pak Samad: Boestamam, Burhanuddin were freedom fighters, Umno grabbed the glory

Unknown | 4:54 PM | | | | | | | Best Blogger Tips

Malaysia's first prime minister Tunku Abdul Rahman, referred to as 'Father of Independence', was just a "receiver of independence" handpicked by the British colonisers to safeguard their interests in Malaya, said national laureate A Samad Said.
"To me, Tunku was not an independence fighter. He was a receiver, the person approved by the British to 'receive' independence... the British felt that the 'receiver' must be a person who can take care of its interests in Malaya," he said during a public forum in Kuala Lumpur last night.

Another Umno palace? Jamil denies stealing zakat money for renovations

Unknown | 4:43 PM | | | | | | Best Blogger Tips

Minister in charge of Islamic affairs Jamil Khir Baharom has denied helping himself to zakat money or Islamic tithes to build a palatial home mansion for himself and family. In the style of his Umno party, Jamli also rushed to offer to 'swear' or take a religious oath if his accusers did the same.
“Wallahi, I did not take zakat money. You can check with the Federal Territory zakat department and get a clean audit. I dare to swear if they dare,” Jamil Khir told reporters on Thursday.

From communist lover to phone sex fiend: Umno's latest plot against Mat Sabu

Unknown | 12:01 AM | | | | | | | Best Blogger Tips

WITH VIDEO No doubt about it. Prime Minister Najib Razak and his Umno party are back to using sex for their campaign to bring down Pakatan Rakyat leaders, this time against PAS deputy president Mat Sabu.
Upset that their other plan to tarnish the PAS No. 2 by accusing him of being a 'communist lover' was boomeranging to the extent that top Umno leaders have to deny that Malaya was ever a British colony, Umno strategists have been hunting high and low for the next 'scandal' to pin onto Sabu.

'JAIS is UMNO's last bastion in Selangor'

Unknown | 12:01 PM | | | | Best Blogger Tips

Shah Alam member of parliament Khalid Samad has described the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) as UMNO's last bastion in the state.
Responding to the latest action against him for giving a religious talk in Klang without approval from JAIS, Khalid said the department was too eager to stop the Islamic party from getting close to the people especially at religious programmes in mosques.

WikiLeaks pinpoints Mahathir, Umno and EC in Sabah's infamous Project M

Unknown | 3:34 AM | | | | | | | | Best Blogger Tips

A recent diplomatic cable released by Wikileaks has a rather ominous entry that pinpoints the then prime minister Mahathir Mohamad as being the perpetrator of a citizenship-for-votes scam, with the alleged direct involvement of the then Election Commission chief.
The cable stated: “During their discussion, Hussin claimed that (former EC head) Rashid admitted his direct involvement in UMNO's shadowy 1990s push to assume political control of the East Malaysia state of Sabah. During that decade, UMNO granted citizenship and Malaysian Identity Cards (ICs) to over 600,000 foreign migrant workers (predominantly Muslims from Indonesia and Mindanao) in Sabah, in exchange for their votes in state assembly elections (ref B). UMNO-affiliated parties subsequently took over all of Sabah's state assembly seats. According to Hussin, Rashid "admitted to personally issuing over 60,000 fraudulent Malaysian ICs in Sabah," to help UMNO assume political control there. Hussin told us Rashid characterized his Deputy EC Chairman, Wan Omar, as "an UMNO member who is anti-reform."

Umno riding on the slippery Mat Sabu bandwagon

Unknown | 1:58 PM | | | | | Best Blogger Tips

If you do not believe that Umno has already passed its expiry date as a potent political party, all you need to do is to watch how its entire leadership as well as its entire propaganda machineries have been fully engaged in the past week to indulge in an orgy of attacks against Mat Sabu – PAS’ deputy president.
It’s OK if Mat Sabu has done something wrong. But the awful truth is that he has done nothing wrong.
Mat Sabu has only exposed the myth that Umno is the only one who fought and gained Malaya’s independence from the clutches of the colonial power.
His illustrative mention of Muhammad Indera (fondly known as Mat Indera) as an independence fighter was only in the context of lambasting Umno for ritualistically twisting the Bukit Kepong assault incident on every Merdeka Day for Umno’s self-glorification – as if it is the only body accountable for the country’s independence.

Sabu's medical claims: 2 receipts, Umno showed only one

Unknown | 10:38 PM | | | | | Best Blogger Tips

KUALA LUMPUR - Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has rubbished accusations that PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu pocketed over RM3,300 in excess medical claims made to Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang Sdn Bhd (PBAPP).
Pro-Umno blogs have alleged that Mohamad, who sits on the PBAPP board, put in a claim worth RM8,434.05 for his knee operation at KPJ Selangor Specialist Hospital in July despite being charged only RM5,060.54.
But Lim said today that the KPJ Selangor receipt being circulated online was only for hospitalisation and did not include a second half that showed Mohamad was also billed RM3,373.50 for specialist consultation and surgery.

Umno Planned Roadshow - Demeaning Veterans For The Sake Of Political Survival

Unknown | 2:43 AM | | | | | Best Blogger Tips

The knee-jerk and overzealous plan by UMNO Youth to hold roadshows to attack the Deputy President of PAS Hj Mohamad Sabu is both regrettable and unnecessary. Its action comes despite many sources indicating that Hj Mohamad Sabu did not glorify Communism or violence in the speech he gave on 21st August.
One thing however is very clear from this latest controversy: the fact that quarrels keep arising over the Emergency and other historical periods indicates that the so-called "official" version of Malaysia’s history as propagated by the BN administration has not gained universal acceptance. Indeed, it seems to be causing great unhappiness amongst many groups and communities, and has made the divisions in our society all the more bitter.

Umno blamed for cameraman's death: Somalia the deadliest country for media

Unknown | 11:57 PM | | | | | | Best Blogger Tips

As Malaysians mourn the killing of a local journalist in Somalia, Noramfaizul Mohd Nor’s relatives want Umno’s Putera 1 Malaysia Club to be held responsible for his death.
The club — which is headed by Umno supreme council member Datuk Abdul Azeez Rahim — organised a humanitarian mission to the war-torn country that led to the Bernama TV cameraman’s death last Friday.
“They (Putera 1 Malaysia Club) are the ones who organised (the mission). They cannot lepas tangan (evade responsibility),” Noramfaizul’s uncle Abu Bakar Md Yasin told The Malaysian Insider at the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) base here today.
“They should have done prior intelligence. Don’t just barge in. This is a foreign country,” added the 64-year-old retired civil servant from the Defence Ministry.

Umno is going to collapse very soon, says Mat Sabu

Unknown | 3:38 PM | | | | Best Blogger Tips

KUALA LUMPUR - PAS is close to declaring itself victors in its contest with Umno for the Malay rural vote during Hari Raya, with its deputy president Mohamad Sabu confidently saying that “Umno is going to collapse very soon”.

The vocal leader, who has been battling criticisms for his Bukit Kepong tragedy remarks, insisted to The Malaysian Insider yesterday that the party’s Hari Raya campaign blitz had been successful in garnering more Malay support for the federal opposition.
“Our ceramahs in the suraus and the mosques have been great. Very good response from the people,” he said.

Go gracefully, Jui Meng advises Tsu Koon as Umno, even Vincent Tan attacks

Unknown | 4:03 AM | | | | | | | Best Blogger Tips

PKR vice president Chua Jui Meng has advised his former colleague Koh Tsu Koon to "go gracefully" from the BN coalition of which the 62-year Gerakan president been a member since the 1980s.
"If I were Tsu Koon, I would go gracefully. But I must also say it is not right for BN treat Tsu Koon this way. After all, he did contribute to their coalition in the past, no doubt in his own way and also in the way that they required him to," Jui Meng, a former Health minister and MCA vice president, told Malaysia Chronicle.
"The thing is, if you don't want him, just tell him so. Don't make a circus of it all and tar him until he has no dignity left. I think Tsu Koon should leave a heartless coalition like the BN. He should become an Independent or else join Pakatan. Whichever his decision, the point is, don't allow yourself to be kicked like this. It's not worth it."

‘Umno must compete without killing opposition’

Unknown | 2:46 AM | | | | Best Blogger Tips

Umno must adopt elements of the new nationalism – declare war on corruption and mediocrity.
We know the Pakatan Rakyat people haven’t got superior quality people too. Even they are scrapping the bottom of the barrel which is abundantly clear when they are forced to accept renegades from ruling coalition partners.
Umno cannot bank its resurgence on the demerits of its opponents. It must rebound on its own native strengths and capabilities.
Hence rather than applying resources in trying to blow out its opponents, Umno better spend them on rebuilding Umno.
Most times the ‘win-win’ is the most effective approach: ‘You can compete without having to kill the opposition.’
