Man pays RM20,000 to ‘buy’ someone’s wife

Unknown | 4:57 AM | | | | Best Blogger Tips

MANY men are taking advantage of the tebus talak system to “buy” people's wives.
A man in Johor paid RM20,000 to the syariah court to pay for a divorce so he could marry Normah, 31, Harian Metro reported.
The RM20,000 was payment for tebus talak (divorce by redemption) as Normah's husband did not agree to a divorce by consent.
She told the Malay daily that the man was willing to part with such a huge sum of money as he was determined that they be together.
Normah said she had told her then husband of her intention to be with the man, who was her ex-schoolmate, but he refused to give his consent to a divorce.
“So I had to go to court which allowed the tebus talak divorce,” said Normah, who married the man four months after the divorce.
Syariah Lawyers Association of Malaysia deputy president Musa Awang said there were many men who took advantage of the tebus talak system .
He told the daily he had handled 20 tebus talak divorce cases this year and most of the time, the money was provided to the women by their husbands-to-be.

How silly can MCA leaders be

Unknown | 4:44 AM | | | Best Blogger Tips

How silly can MCA political leaders be? On second thought, should anyone be surprised with the MCA’s use of women and sex to attract political attention and support?
It is no wonder that the Chinese community is shying away from MCA today. The present batch of party central leaders is a disgrace to the Chinese for supporting an immoral leader – one who womanises and cheats on his wife.
Clearly, their support for Chua Soi Lek is based solely on political patronage and the perks from the party and its assets, especially from its cash cow, The Star newspaper. It cannot be for the interest of the Chinese community, and Malaysians in general.
The MCA can now, hardly defend itself from the use of sex to attract political support, following the pictorial write up by Toh Leong posted by Malaysia Chronicle on Oct 20, 2011, and titled MCA's 'Hot Chicks' and Wee Ka Siong: The Inside Story.

Has Dr Mahathir gone mad? The truth about the man and nothing but the truth

Unknown | 4:30 AM | | | | | | Best Blogger Tips

It was Euripides in ‘Medea’ who made famous the phrase “ Those whom the gods wish to destroy, they first make mad”. Certainly it would be a fitting description of Muammar Gaddafi, whose gory end was telecast for all to see, on Al-Jazeera and CNN. It would be no less appropriate a phrase to describe Mahathir Mohammed; who has been mad for quite a while now.
We will not delve too much into what drove Mahathir mad, but it does not appear to be the usual reasons of genetics, or grief, or some drug overdose. Mahathir appears to have been driven mad by power. And perhaps certifiably insane by his quest for absolute, unquestioned power.

Chinese hit-and-run toddler dies

Unknown | 5:54 PM | | | | Best Blogger Tips

BEIJING - A Chinese toddler who was ignored by 18 passers-by as she lay critically injured in the street after being run over by two vehicles has died, the hospital treating her said Friday.
Surveillance camera footage of people walking past the two-year-old girl, nicknamed Yue Yue, as she lay bleeding and unconscious sparked a wave of condemnation and soul-searching on China’s popular social networking sites.
A rubbish collector who finally moved the girl to the side of the street in the southern Chinese city of Foshan was hailed as a hero, but the incident also led many online commentators to question the state of Chinese morality.
“Yue Yue died of systemic organ failure,” a spokesman from the hospital treating her told AFP, adding that no expense had been spared to try to save the girl, whose parents are migrant workers.

Fish foot spas can spread HIV and Hep C

Unknown | 3:20 AM | | | Best Blogger Tips

Trendy fish pedicures could spread HIV and hepatitis C, officials warned.
The Health Protection Agency said risks from the foot-nibbling treatment are "low but could not be completely excluded".
And it said those with diabetes, psoriasis or with weakened immune systems are especially vulnerable and should never undergo the pampering craze.
Infections and bacteria may be passed on by the tiny garra rufa fish themselves or through water used by a previous client and left unchanged.
Blood-borne viruses like HIV and hepatitis could be transmitted if infected clients bleed in spa water that is used again.

"He should be brought to court for this crime too, and not just the girl, because he is equally responsible for what has happened."

The condition of the two-year-old girl, Yue Yue, who was severely injured in a hit-and-run accident, is showing signs of stability, Guangdong Daily reported Tuesday.

A video of the incident, captured by a surveillance camera, shows the girl being hit by a white van before being hit by another van a few minutes later on a narrow market street in the city of Foshan in Guangdong province on the afternoon of October 13.

After two and a half days of treatment, good news came Monday morning that Yue Yue has regained the ability to take weak breaths with the help of respirator.

Upon hearing that her husband was meeting another woman nearby at a hotel in Nanjing on Sunday, an angry wife rushed to catch the pair in the act.

Allegations against Guan Eng’s son ‘completely untrue,’ says school principal

Unknown | 9:46 PM | | | | | Best Blogger Tips

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 – The principal of SMK Heng Ee in George Town today moved to put an end to accusations that Lim Guan Eng’s son had sexually harassed a female student of the school, calling it “completely untrue.”
Goon Boon Poh told The Malaysian Insider that he was “shocked” when he read news reports of the allegation, and that he wanted to put an end to the matter as it could affect the image of the high school.
Pro-Umno bloggers including Bukit Gelugor Umno division chief Dr Novandri Hasan Basri had claimed that the Penang chief minister’s son had assaulted a 16-year-old schoolmate and tried to escape punishment by using his father’s name.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 18 — Khairy Jamaluddin suggested today there was nothing wrong with his remarks about allegations involving Lim Guan Eng’s teenage son, and called his critics hypocrites for pointing out that he was perpetrating lies about a member of a political rival’s family.
Earlier today, Lim said he was furious with the “barbaric lies” made about his teenage son by “pro-Umno ferocious beasts,” singling out Khairy and other ruling party leaders for perpetuating the allegations through snide comments on blogs and social media sites.
Responding via his Twitter account to the criticisms, the Umno Youth chief said Barisan Nasional (BN) politicians and their families had been on the receiving end of even worse insults from the Opposition in the past.

Unknown | 2:48 PM | | | | | Best Blogger Tips

A SEX syndicate is using Facebook to attract young customers.
A man was shocked to find his 16-year-old brother had sought their services via the social network, Sin Chew Daily reported.
The man, known only as Li, told the daily that he spotted his brother at a hotel in Klang during school hours while he was having a business meeting at the location recently.
“When I confronted him, he told me that he was playing truant to seek sex services, which he had discovered through the social network,” he told the daily.
Li said his brother told him that more than half of his classmates had sought the service, which costs between RM100 and RM140.
“He said if they want to spend a night with the prostitute, they have to pay RM360,” adding that the website had the photo and price for every prostitute.
Li said he hoped parents would pay more attention to their children so they would not be involved in unhealthy activities.

How Najib trapped hundreds of Ustaz and Ustazah for a 1Malaysia Budget 2012

Unknown | 2:42 PM | | | | | Best Blogger Tips

Ustaz (male Islamic teachers) and ustazah (female Islamic teachers) in Gombak cannot help but feel taken for a ride by Prime Minister Najib Razak and his administration. A few days before his much-hyped Budget 2012 was unveiled on October 7, all of them had received a letter from the district Education office or Pejabat Pelajaran Daerah to attend a half-day course at the SRJK(C) Kundang school.
This raised eyebrows as many wondered what could be so important that such short notice was given to demand their attendance for the course. The location of the school sparked suspicion as there were Islamic religious schools in the Gombak area, which could be better used to host the course.

Dr M and Najib shadow-box over GE-13: Who is fighting smart, who is not?

Unknown | 2:22 PM | | | | | Best Blogger Tips

Former premier Mahathir Mohamad seems to be working feverishly hard to get Prime Minister Najib Razak to delay the 13th general election, a rather odd thing to do when you consider that Mahathir is supposed to be retired.
At 85, he should be counting his blessing and allowing the current establishment a free hand in running the country. Yet, the still wily and sharper-than-a-knife statesman is obviously concerned that under Najib, Barisan Nasional may finally see its demise and this would spell disaster for all that he has built during the 22 years he was prime minister and sole arbiter of the fate of 28 Malaysians.

Najib's unfulfilled promises and Tsu Koon's "cockiness" and "self-denial"

When Najib became Prime Minister in 2009, he ambitiously appointed 6 Ministers to lead the  6 National Key Result Areas (NKRA): widening access to quality and affordable education, crime prevention, fighting corruption, raising the living standard of the low-income people, upgrading infrastructure in the rural and interior regions, and improving public transportation in a moderate period of time. The targets and details of these NKRAs were announced on 27 July 2009.
Although electricity supply coverage for West Malaysia is about 99%, the coverage in Sabah and Sarawak remains low at 80%. Consequently, Najib placed special emphasis on improving basic amenities in rural and remote areas of East Malaysia with special allocations of RM4 billion to construct 1,500 km of tarred roads in Sabah and Sarawak, RM2 billion to improve the water supply in East Malaysia to enable 90% of the population to have access to clean tap water, and RM3.9 billion to improve power-generation facilities to ensure that 95% of households have access to electricity supply.
According to the Prime Minister’s announcement on 27 July 2009, these projects were projected to be completed by the end of 2012 to benefit 2 million rural folks in Sabah and Sarawak. After more than 2 years, with the projected completion date just a little more than a year away, how much of the above ambitious projects have been implemented?

After what he did to the Rulers, Dr M has the least right to rebuke Aziz Bari

Unknown | 2:00 PM | | | | | Best Blogger Tips

In what many political pundits termed as one of the greatest ironies and an act of great hypocrisy, former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad has condemed law lecturer Aziz Bari as being 'kurang ajar' or rude for questioning the recent decision by the Selangor Sultan over an alleged apostasy and church raid incident.
"It is hypocritical of Mahathir to now defend the Sultans. Who could have been ruder than him and Umno," opposition MP for Batu Tian Chua toldMalaysia Chronicle.
Aziz, an outspoken and well-respectecd professor at the International Islamic University of Malaysia, had reportedly said that Sultans could be questioned. There had been much unhappiness over the Selangor Ruler's decision which was deemed unfair by Christian groups.

"We can confirm that three female and one male suspect were arrested," national police spokesman Oliver Mandipaka told AFP.
"But we cannot speculate or comment further as the case is now before the courts."

MACC's outrageous spending: RM90k for Vanezis, RM150k for Shafee

Unknown | 2:30 AM | | | | | Best Blogger Tips

Malaysia has had several high profile corruption cases in recent months brought to the public's eye. Ironically, in cases like the Scorpenes scandal and the Ananda Krishnan India investigations, these corruption cases are being investigated by foreign agencies. It is embarrassing to think that the Malaysian counterpart to these foreign corruption-busting agencies is slow and inattentive to act on its own homeground.
Although outfitted with a new mandate in 2008, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has little fruit to show although its annual allocation from the national budget has been steadily increased over the years. With an increasing budget, why is it that the MACC has such poor showing when it comes to solving corruption cases and bringing the perpetrators to justice?

Bhutan's royal wedding points to end of polygamy

Unknown | 1:57 AM | | | Best Blogger Tips

THIMPHU - Bhutan's rare form of polygamy, in which men or women take several sisters or brothers as partners, is dying out as the kingdom modernises, with this week's royal wedding another sign of its demise.
The king, 31-year-old Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, married and crowned Jetsun Pema, the commoner daughter of an airline pilot, on Thursday in a colourful Buddhist ceremony in the ancient capital of Punakha.
In his speech announcing the nuptials in May, Wangchuck made clear that Pema would be his only wife - a distinct departure from his father, who married four sisters in 1979, all of whom were crowned queen in the same ceremony.
